he is moved ohio backwards. he was in charge of ohio became the first state in the nation.e backed a big business agenda that worked leading wall street run wild and trade deals both here at brown and that donald trump said were the worst ever. we will take on the big companies to bring down health care costs. we will put in place drug policies that are tough and smart patrol crackdown on drug dealers an and take-out fentanyl from ohio and provided more treatment to the crisis and create an economy that works not just for some of the top but for all of us. it's hard to step into our future. this is about taking on the tough fights and you stand up to a and i will always stand up for the people of ohio. thank you. >> the first question is for you you have 90 seconds to respond and then you have 30 seconds for a rebuttal. you said he would work to protect ohio's pre-existing condition and you've also said he wants changes such as work requirements. if it is revealed what specifically coul would you do s governor to protect ohio with pre-existing conditions and with regards to

everyone in ohio is concerned about this. john houston and i have a real plan that we will put into place. number one, we will have a person who is available to every single student in the state of ohio into every single teacher, that is still very important. we have suicides going up and we also have the opportunity, the other reason we want to do it is the opportunity to find out if someone has a problem early on. we are going to have what we call a center in columbus where we focus on what is going on on social media to help schools. some schools have artie hired people to do this, many schools have not, there is a problem that we pick up on, we will be there to help the school and to tell the school. i believe every school should have a school resource office, i think a school resource officer brings about several different things, one is an opportunity for that student, students to interact with that law enforcement officer, and also the protection that is there, thank you. >> your policies on gun violence?>> thank you fo

we need to reduce health care costs across the board in ohio. this is back to how important it is for people in our society. what we will do is negotiate more aggressively with the drug companies to bring down the price of prescription drugs. that is very important. we will reign in the greedy middlemen. fight to keep the medicaid expansion that might the wind five against for years, trying to make sure that it was wiped out across the country. we need to make sure that we keep it in ohio. at the same time, people need to be able to retire with dignity, which means spreading opportunity through the state so that people have a chance to maintain the lifestyle, sable little for retirement and pay their bills. we will work on that and i am governor. excuse me for not answering your question directly for a moment. mr. cordray, unfortunately is wrong. he knows he is wrong. i have come out in favor, throughout my career, in favor of protecting people and making sure that they have coverage in regards to pre-existing illnesses. i can go back and show yo

opportunity to afford housing here in ohio. ss: senator brown? sen. brown: it's hard to detect lot of interest in higher wages for working-class people when my opponent called the federal minimum wage ridiculous. not ridiculously low, but ridiculous that it exists. yesterday, connie and i were at a neighbor picnic. i met a gentlemen, his name is chad. he's a diesel technician. we talked about his background. maybe he is my age more or less. a am not sure how old he is. what chad said was chad wanted to go straight to school because he wanted to learn that trade. he knows diesel mechanics are very much in demand and can make decent wages. the problem is he had student loans he had to pay off. so whether you go to a community college or ohio state or go to a trade school like that, student loans are a problem. we've got to -- my opponent voted, literally, voted against 36 -- against 25 million americans -- the banks didn't want him to vote for it. i suppose that is why. he voted the other side for 25 million americans to have thei

i seen wind turbines in western ohio. to toledo.ee finds way more subsidize to fossil fuel to geothermal. thee -- toledo is one of major solar manufacturers in the country. our federal government continue pockets of the repealingl industry, renewable portfolio standards. all of those things that we as a as a nation ought to be focused on. the report is mostly accurate. we need a congress that will invest. >> congressman renacci? you.ank i support clean enjoyment, clean water and clean air. i support all of the above. of the comes to all above energy, we need to think about assets here in the state. the problem with senator brown, he's more concerned about other state and washington d.c. natural assets in coal and gas. we should be looking at that. jobs.are this senator, many times wears a talks about the coal miners. my grandfather was a coal miner. my grandfather was a proud coal miner. if my grandfather was alive today, he would say senator you don't support me up. minersupport me as a coal you wanted to bankrupt. we do

we also need bail reform and in ohio. eed to think about individualized determinations of whose being held in just that something we need to do. i will push for criminal justice reform but mike dewine is setting up a climate where nobody will touch criminal justice reform and it's the wrong path or out. it's too expensive to imprison everybody. it is too inhumane to put drug offenders with a drug problem in the prisons where they get no treatment and they, with the fouled on the record. they can't get a job or license for student loan. it's about that for a while and we need to change. >> thirty seconds for a rebuttal. >> richard, we could have some reform but issue one is a total disaster and i continue to bring it up because to me shows a a k of judgment. shows lack of good decision-making. when you're lonely out there pretty much all by yourself. in addition to the things i said a moment ago, what's been a real success is our drug court. this will destroy our drug courts because it will no longer be a penalty nothing ha

we have programs in the state of ohio where businesses have started and everyone there is an ex-felon. we have other businesses. we have had some reforms that the legislature has passed in regards to what records will be available. we want to encourage people to hire a convicted felon and we want to make sure that that is an appropriate position. we would not want to change the law to say that the criminal record of someone would not be available. you would not want a sex offender being hired. my point is we have to be very careful in how we do this. you are absolutely right and the number one complaint that i hear is that we cannot find people to work. we will talk a little bit more in regard to things that we want to do.>> 90 seconds.>> for the last eight years nothing has happened on criminal justice reform. mike dewine has been a chief law enforcement officer and they have done nothing. we will have a hard time with criminal justice reform. if issue one was the only issue in the race, there are many issues. the one thing we cannot do is double down on failure with this crisis that

victoria: and ended up in ohio. in ohio, he was phenomenal. i think he left behind his wayward ways and he started solving every case they put in front of him, and he was phenomenal. and he literally -- part of the case i talked about earlier, there was something like $50 million of corruption within the post office, and this is 1907. he was one of the main characters that uncovered that. they were buying cash machines that nobody was using, and there were thousands of cash machines being bought and registered. finally, he gets a case that he can't solve, and that is a murder. scott: the murder of salvador s irra was a turning point in his career. who was he? italian salvador was an immigrant, had a great little fruit business going. demar, alias,r who was his nephew. kills -- we did not know, of course, at the time. they find sarah murdered and local law enforcement finds two black hand letters, extortion letters, and immediately they know from that period of time that federal law enforcement has to immediately be involved. i think they were

he is continuing to popular in ohio. and the president has delivered for ohio. t and republicans in congress and our congressional delegation helped pass the tax cuts and jobs act which is making more jobs and more money in ohioans pockets. that is important to our economy. we have a record number of jobs in ohio since the last two year, because of the president's agenda. melissa: yeah. >> that is basic math. our voters will vote their wallet. they know republicans delivered for them. they are going to elect republicans. >> your race is really close. the republican is just couple point behind. those things change. they are polls. we know how we feel about polls in the last election. i love it when people tell me how women think and how women vote especially men telling me that they say republican women will vote for democrats in this cycle. how do you respond to that? >> we don't see it. as female chairman of the republican party, i spend a lot of time talking to women. they care about the economic issues, the security issues that republicans are strong on. we're

in a factory. i make those calls based on what i think is good for ohio. i know president trump carried this state twice. i will continue to work to earn that trust. rep. renacci: i think in the last election in 2016, there was a referendum on what is going on in washington, and that's why president trump did win. people were starting to realize they were being forgotten, even though senator brown talks about how he is working for most -- for those people. it seems like ohio has rejected that. the senator traveled all over the state of ohio with hillary clinton saying hillary clinton is for the working family and will protect your wages. in the end, hillary was going to bankrupt the coal industry, the ohio coal industry. 2016 was a referendum, and that's why hillary clinton lost, who senator brown said he was so sorry to see that happen. i think ohioans have understand -- have understood that doing the same thing over and over again, electing the same people over and over again, does not mean the senator is representing ohio. i will always support ohio firs

in aggregate we are talking about $53.5 billion according to recent estimates. ohio is ranked seventh in the country in total student lone debt. given that context, and the fact that the student lone debt is now heighter than any other consumer debt other than mortgages, is this something the government should address? if so, how should it be addressed? >> thank you. student loans zo need to be addressed. there is nobody who understands it better than me. i had a student lone, and i worked a number of jobs to get through college. i understand what it means to take out that debt and pay the debt. i was in youngstown the other day, again driving through. didn't see the senator as he says he is all-around. i was in youngstown, and i was talking to an individual who said to me i could get $150,000 in student loans when i was in college, but now that i am starting a business, i can't get a $40,000 lone. we need to make sure we are also talking to students. sometimes if you are running up $150,000 worth of debt for a job that is only going to pay you $25,000. these are iss

they have concerns about the machines in ohio ohio was still largely using punch card machines. they have not replaced theirs yet. they were already using the paper for list machines. they were actually get a good a court to try to obtain the algorithms. in the courts denied access to it. in the courts generally agree with them. we talked a lot about this. they got out of the election business in 2009. there were four companies at the time and the election systems and software's which is based in nebraska. there was a company called sequoia voting systems. after they have artie spent them on the machine. they tried to sell off all of their business to election systems and software. and that would have consolidated the two top machine makers. this is a company actually based in canada. called the minyan voting systems. now they have the consolidated site. en s&s is the top voting machine company in the country followed by the foreign company. that said is there a danger in that in your view. maybe controlling the votes. they are lighting the software for more than 60% of machines

jobs growing at a faster rate than before area that has affected our bottom line in ohio. both in terms of having more people working, which is the most important goal related to the economy, but also the side benefit for the state is our tax revenues have grown up so we are running a surplus this fiscal year. surplus for a several months in a row. as we head into the next state budget process, as long as we continue to see the sound economic policies of the federal level that we have for the last two years, things look pretty good overall for our budget process. the ohio unemployment rate is higher than the national average, 4.5%. has that come down? guest: that has been creeping up. a curious situation because we have been adding month over month new jobs. ohio is this year on pace for the most new jobs of any year since 2000 -- probably since 2007, 2008. i believe we are on pace for the most new jobs since john kasich became governor and the four years before that we were losing 100,000 jobs per year. you have got to go back far to find a year where we are adding more jo
