kirsten, you read the op-ed. what do you make of what judge kavanaugh has written, and the reasons behind him writing it now? >> well, i think he's probably writing this because he realizes that there are people who are saying, including two people who supported his nomination, who have withdrawn their support over the issue of judicial temperament. so i think he's trying to do some cleanup here. i know conservatives have argued that this is a normal way to react when you're under attack, and your whole life is being criticized and some pretty awful things are being said about you. but i have to say, i think that the way you see what someone's temperament is is to see how they react under pressure. it's not when people are being nice to them. everybody can be calm and have a nice temperament when people are being nice to them. everyone can't be calm and nice when they're under attack. and it doesn't really matter how many of us would respond, because we're not up for the supreme court, which is the highest court

margaret hoover's here as well as kirsten powers. good evening. i'm so glad to have both of you on.garet, you first. kavanaugh's op-ed in the "wall street journal." this is highly unusual for a judicial nominee, isn't it? >> yes. but don, there's nothing about this process that has been usual. i don't think that individual action that's unusual should garner our attention any more than any other part of this entire process. i mean, this has been not only a deeply emotional process for dr. ford, for brett kavanaugh, for his family, for the senate. it's been emotional for the country. and it has been -- it's demonstrated the cultural shift. it's hit with this social change that we're seeing that many would argue has come way too late and isn't complete. all of this, all these forces i think are together in a crucible that make none of this normal, and i don't think you can take any one incident and say gosh, this is odd, maybe we shouldn't do it that way. >> i just want to get to some of what he said. tonight in his op-ed he says, "i do not decide cases based on personal or policy pre

congressman o' rourke mentioned sexual harassment in congress, i joined with democrat kirsten julie brand, leading in legislation -- democrat kirsten gillibrand to create legislation to stop members of congress who were harassing their staff. it is important that we have accountability. mr. o'rourke: i pointed out the local specific opportunities for senator cruz to do the right thing. when of them being the violence against women act. i did not hear a good reason why he failed to support that. you have somebody, as i mentioned earlier, who is all talk and no action. somebody who left the state of texas within a year of being elected to represent all of us, to run for other office. he has not been to all the counties of texas, but he has been to all 99 counties in iowa. he missed a quarter of the votes almost half of them in 2016. the only senator in the past 25 years who has the worst record on bipartisanship. in other words, he has a harder time working with members across the aisle that almost everyone else, to get anything done. if he is not showing up in texas or in washington to vot
