nielsen: there are a few hundred. the number that is left, what we have done is worked very closely in coordination with the court. of that number, the vast majority of their parents have already been removed, or were removed prior to the court injunction. and at the parents now, three different times have said they do not want to be reunited. so they are not reunited. the kids will stay in the hhs care, as laws require, and hhs is working hard to find them sponsors and find someone who does want to be reunited with them. >> martha: how are the being cared for, where are they staying? >> hhs runs the shelters for the children and by the way i would pause here to say, we have 13,000 in the care of hhs right now who came here unaccompanied, his parents sent them at the hands of strangers and in some cases criminals or smugglers. it's an extraordinarily dangerous journey. >> martha: 13,000 not as part of what kind through over the last few years? >> sec. nielsen: 50,000, 13,000 are still in hhs care. >> martha: and what

kpix 5's katie nielsen joins us with the latest. >> the winds are absolutely intense. we knew there were going to redditi today. nownow why. if you tackin me, you can see just how much smoke is pouring off of these hillsides but also how quickly it's moving. firefighters on these ridge lines say they're seeing gusts up to 40 and 50 miles per hour. you can see water dropping helicopters making roundtrips from some of the marshland out here, trying to put out some of these flames. the fire started around 1:00 this afternoon in an area north of highway 12 near travis air force base. it's being pushed by these very strong winds from the north, and right now the fire is moving away from suisun city and toward the sacramento river. according to a spokesperson from the suisun fire protection district, the area is not heavily populated. there are ranch homes but it's mostly agriculture land and duck clubs. >> smoke from this fire was all the way down into contra costa and alameda county. what's burning here is just annual grassland but it's been very dry. and with the wind pus

also homeland security secretary, kirsten nielsen not if washington yesterday focused on the fbi investigation into the serial bombs, but at the border talking about the caravan still thousands of miles away. let's talk about the latest in the investigation, and we will begin our coverage with rosa in opa locka. >> reporter: not only did a lot of packages originate in opa locka, florida, and from talking to some of the employees that work at the mail distribution center, i can tell you they say there's at least 20 inspectors inside following clues, and also they had what a called a service talk about the serial bombs, and what that is, it's a meeting where all of the employees learned of the packages, and they were told to be on the lookout and to be careful. the nationwide manhunt for the person or persons that sent at least ten explosive deviced vilified by president trump, and specifically this postal facility in miami is where several packages were processed and local police helping in the investigation. >> there were some leads. i think the fbi is tracking them all down wherever they take

katie nielsen joins us live from sunnyvale to explain the potential benefits. katie. >>> reporter: this is actually going to be a game changer because 80% of all 911 calls now come from cell phones. and in the past, it was hard to pinpoint the caller's exact location. but as of today, here in sunnyvale, that is changing. the city is launching rapid sos, a new 911 calling system that links dispatcher with the location feature of the emergency caller's cell phone. it will allow dispatchers to see the location of the call down to within 50 feet. sunnyvale is one of the first cities in the bay area to use the technology. >> it helps get our officers to the scene that people are coming from quicker, more accurately as and fast as possible. >> reporter: in the past if someone called 911 from a cell phone, dispatchers could see the caller's location based on the cell tower use but that only gave them a few mile radius. they use the location service of the phones. the only catch is the phones have to be updated. that means ios 12 for apple phones or version 4.0 or late

>> certainly secretary nielsen is involved. likely anybody at the high echelons of the agencies. president trump, as we wrote in our story, he has been on the phone several times a week with secretary nielsen, checking in on the progress of this working group. so she is overseeing their work, absolutely. i think what we're seeing now is that the moderates are coming forward and saying, you know, let's look at the logistical and the legal challenges that could come up here. so, for example, when we talk about a new form of family separation, the idea is to give parents the choice. do you want to give your children up and let them be separated or do you want to keep them with you and stay in detention? very quickly the moderates are pointing out the detention facilities are going to fill up. there is going to be no more space. that means every single family that comes in after is going to have to be released. it's the logistical ideas that may not hold up in court, but i think the moderates from what we're hearing are pushing rea
