the first question is for both of you and tom malinowski you are first with the confirmation hearings and at the state level of t4 movement now at the murphy administration what can be done at the federal level for sexual assault quick. >> thank you for that question and for moderating the debate today. i very much look forward to a wide ranging discussion. when i worked for human rights watch a wonderful organization dedicated to civil rights and human rights in the united states and around the world one of the causes was victims and survivors of sexual violence in the united states there is a terrible problem at that time that rape kits basically were discarded by police departments all over the country instead of tested and used in those terrible situations we led a campaign to fix that problem that was several years ago and we still have a long way to go if i'm elected to congress one of the most important things we can do at the congressional level is to set a good example so reporting and acting on accusations or sexual harassment it is way behind where they need to be the congress has not taken steps to fix it. lance: thank you for
