dana, you created your own artificial pancreas. system in 2013 i believe. so can you just tell us, briefly what that is? and tell us a little bit about your current project with robert woods johnson foundation. and then maybe go on to talk about what impact the diy patient community is having on development of technology and drugs by companies. >> absolutely. >> so i'm talking a little bit from the perspective of a person who has lived with type i diabetes for 16 years. type i diabetes i had access to an insulin pump and a glucose monitor. the cgm would wake me up at night if my blood sugar was low or high. what got me into the diy space was saying i can't change the device, what can i do? i found code which enabled me to get my glucose level in real-time. that allowed me to send it drop box in the cloud and down to my phone to give me a louder alarm and remote monitoring, the ability to track what i was eating and dosing insulin. as a result of that we were able to build a simple algorithm. that would predict what would happen to the blood sugar. and that was helpful in shifting from reactive, your blood sugar is already low, or already high, to predicting into the future what w
