to be the minimum you should do to clean up the mess made by racism, homophobia and sexism and islamophobia, seems like the minimum you can do, say we are going to stop looking down on you as a black person, a woman, a gay person, a muslim. we are going to start going eye-to-eye with you. that seems like a perfectly reasonable thing. that doesn't seem to be a good thing to object to. i think it is important that when these groups ask for things, recognition isn't the only thing they are asking for. they are asking for equal pay. they are asking for equal rights. they are asking for the vote. they are asking for things that are not about race, they are about practical things anyone would want to have. again, that seems to be perfectly reasonable. why shouldn't people who have been denied the vote or civil rights ask for them? that seems perfectly acceptable to me. indeed, it would be weird to think that wasn't a reasonable form of politics, to ask the state to treat me properly, and me and my kind, whatever my kind is. again, i find it a bit difficult to know why you should be against that.
