i'm the deputy director for planning at the sfmta. i would like to add to the voices of support for sponsoring this amendment. thank you to supervisor kim for sponsoring it and to all of you for working on it. eliminating offstreet parking requirements is kind of a no-brainer. our interest and it comes from our role as the congestion management agency. and we strongly support it. particularly for that congestion management reason. eliminating the parking minimums will help us manage congestion better and further our transit first policies because we already know that providing parking, a several of your previous speakers have mentioned has historically been one of the biggest drivers of demands for private vehicle trips and thus of congestion in san francisco and in other cities around the country. changing that requirement is one of the most important things that cities can do. it will also help us by doing -- having those same impacts to reach our climate change and vision zero goals. because having fewer of those spaces will lead to

we are here to laud the process the sfmta engaged with the community. we saw strong outreach, collaborative decision making. the city was able to bring city residents, youth, neighborhoods to the table to partner for a proposal on a safer taylor street. we can attest the planners made substantial changes to the project in order to respond to community feedback while preserving core project goals. we are pleased with the results. the tenderloin community benefit district feels the proposed safer taylor street will add sidewalk space for pedestrians, slow vehicles, protect people crossing streets while preserving access to our businesses and adjacent neighborhoods. it balances the need for a neighborhood street for need for people and goods while bringing laser focus and no compromise on safety. in addition we ask the board to prioritize all of the tenderloin for immediate safety improve ms. if we could make slow, we could safe lives while sfmta work together to make permanent long-term investments [chime] >> chair c. brinkman: thank you mr. bertrang. >>

that is one of the biggest criticisms would get about the sfmta when decisions are made. the planning department, i think does a better job. i think for there to be a larger conversation about this, we shouldn't shy away from it. this is as easy as a no-brainer and we should have that conversation in the community and get feedback and have people understand. the worst thing i would want people to do is to say that this was decided and rushed and it was expedited and there wasn't input and there wasn't a full vetting. there is a whole host of neighborhood organizations that we have that we can access and have conversations with that will allow for input. at the end of the date we end on the same results. great. but at least we have had that opportunity to have a full vetting with the community it citywide. i don't think that this is a conversation that should be rushed. >> thank you. i think we were just discussing perhaps reaching out to the planning staff in terms of some of the community groups that we would love for you to have a discussion with. may be understanding wh

i'm monique webster and i am with the sfmta. i am the senior manager of capital finance. we also have a number of program managers throughout the divisions that manage the programs that are under this bond and -- let's see. we have a thin bench today because of the holiday, but i can try to answer any questions that you have on the projects themselves. as background, the bond was approved by the voters in 2014 and provides $500 million towards investing in transit reliability and safer streets. so far, a little bit under half of the bond funds have been issued and the first issuance was in 2015 followed by a much lighter bond issuance earlier this year for $173 million. there is also a supplemental appropriation that was done last year which redirected a little bit of the portion of the funding from the first issuance to other projects that were -- we had to move money away from spot just projects that were spending slower than anticipated and were moved to use faster moving that had been anticipating funds from the second issuance. these next two slides show all of the p

i will talk about that in a second but the sfmta board approved projects on sixth street, taylor streeterm parking protected bike facility, pedestrian safety improvements and a new cycling facility at the maze connecting some of our neighborhoods to the farmers market. coming to our board, november 6 th is a long-awaited project on townsend street as well as valencia street in december and forthcoming our projects to improve safety on powell and brandon street. we will be starting construction soon on 19th avenue and valencia. i really enjoyed this picture of valencia. i asked myself if i could return us to that traffic control device and would not be the design we would implement? i would go with that in the train tracks. on our safe people side, there is a huge amount of work from our team. this is our kill with kindness campaign that we are doing around two of -- i'm hopeful that the a.v. works on this one. if it doesn't, i assure you we are doing good work here. there is no sound. ok. thank you. so this is a campaign rolling out to share key information about our safety campaign. as
