she passed away a few years ago, but anitra is going to be the new person to run this rec place with a lot of the kids that are standing here behind me. and it does take a village, and it does take a lot of support, especially for our young people, who deserve to have every opportunity that is available to them. and it was because of programs like what existed here at margaret hayward playground is the reason why i was able to grow and to thrive in san francisco. living right across the street at plaza east, which didn't look like what it looks like now, too, large towers of public housing, and my grandmother, she raised me, and in order to get me out of her hair, she'd say go to the park to play. but it's amazing to be with all of you here because we are going to make this park, this playground, this rec center, we are going to make it into something that is absolutely incredible. in 2016, a plan began with so many community organizations began in this neighborhood to say what the people wanted, what the people who live here wanted, in terms of a new playground and recreation center
