churchwell, your book is "behold, america."ou start out your acknowledgments by saying that this is not a book you planned to write. prof. churchwell: i actually was writing a book about henry james and then politics efforts happened. i think a lot of people have that reaction to the outcome of the 2016 election. for me, i had a very strong feeling that some of the ways that people were reacting to trump's rhetoric, in particular his use of the phrase america first in his campaign slogan in the way that was picked up, and his unusual use of the american dream, a much more familiar phrase, that's the stories that were coming out in the media and the commentary were inaccurate. they were distorted. it seemed to me that those meanings were very alive in the kinds of ideas that trump and his advisers were putting forward. i thought it was important to bring up the prehistory of these i thought it was important to bring up the prehistory of these phrases. brian: why have you been doing this research? prof. churchwell: i wrote a book

"the hold,is book "behold, america." who named it? prof. churchwell: it is my editor who came up with using the phrase. but the phrase comes from one of the earliest iterations of the american dream. it was a commemorative service in honor of ulysses s. grant. it is a speech that show the american dream was being used at that time to describe those older founding ideals. those ideals of self-government, opportunity for all, of a set of aspirations. that is what the american dream means to me, not free market capitalism. i was struggling to find a title for this book because it is about ideas. it wasn't obvious how to do that. it is my editor who said what "behold, america?" here is this history. she is actually an american as well. we thought there was a very nice pun there. it works in two ways. it is both -- look at america in different ways. have ofd the image you those rallies. you have an american flag next to a nazi flag. so you are beholding and america you have not seen before. is a statement to look at yourself and behold america.

they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder a romanian photographer has made it her mission to prove that seeing what she calls the atlas of beauty after quitting her job as a television station producer she traveled around the world before to draft women like her to underscore that every woman is beautiful the way she is because her study. me high on the no rock has been in georgia china and india she's visited more than fifty countries in the last four years to capture images of female beauty. but when i started this project that i didn't have the same idea out of unclothed project i was just aiming for something a kid who has it in for myself. still doing it required a leap of faith. no rock quit her job at a t.v. production company in bucharest at first she lived off her savings then she started financing her trips through crowdfunding. whether in myanmar. germany or italy. the streets and markets are her workplace. no rock approaches women and photographs them. then in their. very instinctual process is a very. maybe some chemistry is going on maybe some in their genes are going
