the bar and restaurant was one of the so-called mile houses that marked the road each mile between sanrancisco and the territory to the south, a place on the dusty road to eat, drink, as well as other activities for those in a coach, as well as in wagons or on horseback. this was two years before the pony express had even started. but as culturally rich as the story is, many people either took the stops for granted or never really knew the history of the mile houses, or one of the last remaining ones, the 7 mile just outside san francisco in brisbane. in fact, the 7 mile house was also destined to be a forgotten footnote when, in 2004, an immigrant family from the philippines purchased the place, and almost intuitively understood and appreciated the history that was part of the establishment. and vanessa garcia not only resurrected the old atmosphere of the mile house, but researched and wrote a book about it along with co-author regina abuyuan, and so restored the history and the rundown building of 7 mile house. robert: what's the sense of history you get from this building? vanessa:
