now one small ohio city may have found a solution and addressed the controversy over columbus day at the same time. sanduskyon day a paid holiday for municipal workers by swapping it out with columbus day. here to talk about it is the city manager in sandusky. i read about this and i wanted to know more about it. how long did you work on trying to get this done? >> honestly, we've been working on it probably for the last three or four months as part of our local union negotiations. we have three public unions that we negotiate with. the holidays we observe are both codified in the ordinance but also in those public unions. so we broached the subject as part of those negotiations. they were very open minded. we worked through a small issues that our commission passed unanimously. >> dana: how did it come to your level where you decided to try to push it through? >> it came up first in our negotiations in 2015. we were talking with the unions among several issues about the potential of dropping columbus day as an observed holiday. we decided quickly in that round of negotiations not to go forward with that. w
