. >> scott mcgrew, the president says a stronger border wall will make the texas city safer. >> that statement has made a lot of people angry in el paso, because el paso is already a safe city, even the republican mayor of el paso speaking out defending his city. we have some video here of mr. trump inspecting wall prototypes in the past. el paso already has a border fence. in his state of the union, the president said el paso used to have extremely high rates of violent crime, one of the highest, he said, in the country, and one of the most dangerous cities. now the powerful barrier in place, he said in the speech, el paso is one of the safest. both the republican mayor there and the local paper, "the el paso times" point to crime statistics showing the opposite. el paso is a safe city by anybody's standard but crime actually went up after the construction of the fence in 2008. the democrat who ran for texas senate but lost beto o'rourke will hold an anti-wall rally at the very same time and do that very close to the president's rally. negotiation between democrats and republicans t
