van van ness pick i've had the pleasure of working with outside lands for the last seven years on the planning process, and also housing a lot of the folks that set up outside lands and take it apart. it is a three-day festival, capita starts about two weeks prior to the first day of the music, and we are the beneficiary, directly of that business but comes into san francisco. i have 200 employees are rely on this business. the folks that come into attend the music festival, along with the workers utilize a lot of the restaurants and goods and services along the van ness corridor, as well as polk street. i can't say enough about how the planning process has gone with outside lands. they have been a pleasure to work with. on behalf of my hotel and my staff, we are in support of this permit extension. >> thank you very much. next speaker, please. >> hello everyone. i am the associate director of the san francisco-based nonprofit women's audio mission. women's audio mission is a 15-year-old music and media nonprofit that serves over 2,000 underserved women and girls a year. we operate the only recording studios in the world his built and run entirely by women. we offer classes to adults, afterschool programs for middle school girls, residents needs, concerts, performances, and much more. they approached us last year, and we were very grateful to accept a grant from them a $40,000 over two years in support of our programs. they also offered us to get to the festival for all of our staff. we are continuing discussions with them about what other synerg

van ness avenue.(ken) the san francisco fire every to shelter in latest. g and e is on the scene of an explosion in the city... in tonight's case it's actially two transformers that blew.was at van ness and green... near russian hill. the other was some 50 to 100 feet east of the intersection. right now... there's a shelter in place and first responders are going door to door in that area... letting people know what's going on. this is new video of just in. no injuries reported. at least one building is without power as a result. p-g- and e crews are trying to determine trying to crews are trying to determine what potential danger zone. everyone being told to stay away from this area. we'll keep you posted as we learn more. (justine)all lanes are open now.but more lane closures will start tonight at 9 and last until 7am.cal trans will shutdown one lane of traffic in each direction... tonight and saturday night.crews are going put a larger metal plate over the temporary fix.work to make long-term repairs could start as soon as monday.and for the driver - who had the concrete fall on his car - he tells me what happened was terrifying. on the phone: graham edwards / concrete hit car tony tavares / caltrans district 4 director :55 dur a two foot crack on the front bumper of graham edwards mercedes... is the damage he says a football sized chunk of concrete did to his car after it crashed down rich sr bridge he recalled the terrifying moment when he saw the bridge crumbling before his eyes.sot graham edwards / car hit "not much thinking. i was freaked out. what do you do? i wasnt able to judge was it going to come through the windshield it was a flinch moment at 60 miles per hour with what is clearly an object that can do some real damage."the concrete fell from the upper deck on to the lower deck as graham drove from sonoma to the oakland airport. he didnt stop because he didnt want to miss his flight.but when his wife call 911 for him, that promoted caltrans to shutdown the bridge .. to inspect the issue. we know now an expansion joint failed, causing the concrete to come crashing down.sot "expansion joints allow the bridge to move when temperature changes they have to be replaced from time to time i compare them to wear parts on a car like tires or brakes that you have to repair from time to time."caltrans will now inspect all the expansion joints on the bridge. while permanent fix gets finalized.(sot) tony tavares / caltrans district 4 director " we will likely replace the 3 lanes on the upper deck replace the entire expansion joint from left side to the right side on the upper deck we are going to minimize the impact to drivers and do work during the night time hours and all they might see is a steel plate over one of the lanes."repairs could take weeks and will cost about 300- thousand dollars.even though work starts next week ..after this happened to his car, graham will not be driving on the bridge anytime soon.sot will do my best to avoid it at all if possible.
