the national weather service issued a winter storm warning for the region that expired at 7 p.m. the storm brought periods of moderate to heavy snowfall, some whiteout conditions. motorists could be stuck in their vehicle for many hours and should avoid traveling unless necessary, the weather service said. those who must travel should prepare for long delays and carry chains and an emergency kit with extra food, water and clothing.
