in a 25 page report the san francisco medical examiner identified the cause of death of san francisco public defender jeff adachi as acute mix drug toxicity, a combination of cocaine and alcohol. other conditions listed on the report, hypertensive atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease is. there was a 60 to 70% luminal stenosis in the left ascending branch. this doctor specializes in cardio electrophysiology and said the combination of that much narrowing of the artery plus cocaine proved fatal. >> cocaine by both narrowing the blood vessel and cocaine is a stimulant of platelets which are cells that cause blood to clot, it can further restrict blood flow to the heart. >> reporter: adachi was found unresponsive february 22nd after dinner with a woman known as catalina at 46 telegraph place in san francisco. after dinner adachi wasn't feeling well and requested xantac and said these spells happened before and passed on their own. the medical examiner report states at some point most likely during dinner his already compromised heart could no longer sustain the amount of cardiac stress caused

the felony division as the office and began as a public defender nearly 20 years ago in contra costa county before moving across the bay to san francisco's office. he talked about the importance of someone being appointed inhouse and understands the role of the public defender specifically in the city's office here in san francisco. he says things may be different with him in charge but the core message will remain the same. >> we are going to renew and recharge our commitment to excellence for our clients. we are going to continue broader reform efforts. we are going to continue to protect the public against overreaching government abuses. we are going to continue our struggle for racial justice in this city. and statewide. >> reporter: his predecessor jeff adachi passed away from a heart attack february 22nd after having dinner with a friend in the city's north beach neighborhood. police ruled out foul play coming to the death of adachi. raju will be public defender until november and then the city will elect the public defender in november. he told us after this press conference he plans to run for that position, as well. >> all right

san francisco arts education project. we just celebrated our 50th year serving students in the san francisco public schools. there is no question that arts are important to young people, and i think all of you agree with that. but it's also very important that artists are administered and helped into the schools, principles are overworked, we know this, and one of the things that they have done so brilliantly in the last ten years is to help find, recruit, develop, administer, and help the principles and help the schools, and therefore help the children have these marvellous experiences that you just heard about. it

ve each unit imp in the office to best serve the citizens of san francisco. >> and your predecessor was also work that went beyond the public defender's office. he was a advocate for justice reform and pension reform in san francisco. therere certain issues beyond the walls of the public defender's office that really speak to you,hat you plan to be a vocal advocate for? >> yes. there are many areast but to go over a couple. increasing evidence that the brain is no fully developed until ages of 23 or 24 years old. yet, we're still treating youth as people who have fully formed brains. so expanding young adult areas where we can move young people into areas rather than incarcerion, further rehabilitation if there was a crime committed anmoving in a sitive direction so people can move into either the educational or job force areas without convictions on their records. >> and you also founding member of the groupl p defender's for racial justice. i imagine what you're talking about ties into that as iwell. is the group that advocates for selecting juries that are more representative the communities that they come from. that the

the human resources at the city and county of san francisco and specifically the san francisco publices commission were subverted, and they turned everything on its head. and so i'm here, where i should be complimenting you, i'm here having a big question mark about what happened and how did it happen. that supplemental questionnaire, i had an 11-page response. i teach project management, so my detailed response was fact, it wasn't hyperbole. so it upsets me that i have to be here under these circumstances, when i know harlan kelly, i know juliet ellis, and i know dwayne jones who wrote the community benefits package and is now the recipient of one of the biggest contracts in the community for community benefits, and he actually wrote the community benefits package. so again, i am very, very disappointed in the process in bayview-hunters point. and i can tell you a number of other things, but i don't have the time. thank you very much, commissioners, for listening. >> vice president moller caen: mr. kelly, could you arrange a conversation with the proper person to discuss this. >> yes
