i am also a product of the san francisco unified school district. i went to andrew jackson elementary school. i went to cabrillo elementary school. and you wonder why so many elementary schools. we had a retrofit for earthquakes. i graduated from washington high school in the late 80's. i went to roosevelt elementary school, and i'm very thankful i had the opportunity at roosevelt to be in band. it didn't allow me to take the visual arts because that was my elective, but that stayed with me until now. i'm a musician now, but i'm a visual artist because i worked very hard after barely graduating from washington high school, okay? i'm telling you that i know it from the inside out. i worked hard at city college, 13th grade, to get myself into a four-year college, and that's where i realized no, you're an artist, and i graduated from the studio art department, came back, and was given the opportunity by my mean of students. so it takes advocates for the students. that's what i'm being right now. so i want you guys to reconsider this because i'm doing t

this year the san francisco unified school district want to remember the resiliency of the victims of the larger sex trafficking in modern history, also known call the comfort women. during world war ccs and world s were trafficked, ti thailand, cambodia were forced japanese military comfort's system into sex slavery. the stark history was hidden over 40 years million these women, the comfort women survivors came out and told the world what had happened. sf unified remembers the courage to break the silence, leading the way for hundreds of thousands of victims for silence violence to do the same in the metoo movement. we dedicate this recognition to the victims and continue to urge sf to comply with resolution number 158-251 passed in 2015, which soughts i states in part t community experts to work this consultation to incorporate an educational commitment of the history for comfort women of world war ii under the japanese military and educate the community about the harmful effects of sex trafficking in the modern-day context of protecting the youth community from trafficking. thank

just like the san francisco unified school district board of education, they have student delegates. the woman's month video was beautiful, but it also made me think about that deputy last week on the news in alameda who was able to talk down the suspect with a knife, who was egging the officer on and who was looking like he could be a huge threat, but i really nend what i saw her do which was basically talk her down. i have to say as women, we are going to sometimes use our smarts. i really liked that, and i hope that can be something more like a model. i did have an unfortunate incident about that a couple of weeks where the officers are knowledge idea about that. i just always want to remind you how up set i am over the racist text messages back from years ago. i don't know if they've ever been addressed, but i just cannot emphasize how unacceptable it was that officers would use that kind of language, that i don't use, don't think about. i don't think it should be used on the city equipment, but i think it should involve termination because i don't think anybody is going to feel

all my life because for 35 years when i taught at the san francisco unified school district every morningd across my heart and said with liberty and justice for all. these are the things i work for every day even though i retired from thirty seven years teaching evenings and sunday's a city college. 35 years in the daytime teaching newly arrived in may when kids i continue my passion to do whatever it is best for the community for san francisco for the voiceless that's what i do because i am buddhists and i feel that any time we have any energy. we should be able to share that i just want to give you a little bit of background about what happened years ago when my mother and i and my two siblings came to san francisco. she was a new widow and struggling. a lot because obviously she didn't speak the language. in those days. everything was english only so being the oldest of three i had to assist my mother in every way why also going to school to navigate all the services for her. and you know funeral so and so forth from my stepfather i've witnessed a daily frustrations despair but with an

these academic programs are provided at no cost, including transportation, to the san francisco unified school districts, fourth and fifth graders. this year more than 1500 kids will come through stem programs and we'll pass 7,000 in total from all of your districts. each year we have week-long and three-hour programs to 3,700 kids from 37 growght groups around the bay. they are supported through grants by the department of children, youth and their families. and tisc has individual scholarships based on financial need and along with the stem sailing programs annually gives an average of 85 percent of its participants scholarships. and we have numerous funders to pay for all of these and we have become a very important part to our community and its families. but our infrastructure is aging and in anticipation of our new lease we have several challenging years ahead of us. we need as much time as possible to raise the funds that we need to build the best sailing center for our community and to continue to provide these perspective programs for future generations of san franciscoians. i u
