( robin ) happening today... the contra costa count board of supervisors will consider a proposal for automated license plate readers in the discovery bay area. a spokesperson for the contra costa county sheriff says the county wants to install 21 cameras along highway 4 and bixler road. police say suspects often flee to discovery bay because it is so close to highway 4. they are hoping that license plate readers can help police identify some of these suspects. ( robin ) in the south bay... there's been a recent spike in crashes along highway 17. in january and feburary -- there were 228 crashes on highway 17 between los gatos and scotts valley. that's the most in a decade and three times the rate on other state roads wth similar traffic patterns according to the group "safe on 17." several people were injured and three people died in the first two months of the year, which is often the number of fatalities in an entire year.

taking a look at the eastshore freeway, so far, so good. an easy ride this morning along i-80 westbound out of richmond. if you are cutting across the richmond/san rafael bridge, so far, so good, no delays there. in fact, clear all the way into emeryville. that's where you're going to see a few brake lights toward the bay bridge toll plaza. all right. east there was we have this crash west 80 at mason still blocking lanes. you're starting to see a backup as you work your way out of vacaville. and a new crash just reported northeast east right at davis looks like it is over to the shoulder southbound 880 the commute direction through there so far holding steady with no major delays through there. so an okay ride despite the accident on the northbound side of the nimitz freeway. a quick look at traffic on 680 through alamo, san ramon, southbound looking great with some nice speeds no delays right now working your way through 680 into walnut creek. should be able to connect over to 24 with no problems this morning. if you want to skip the roads

we have trouble across the eastshore freeway. we have trouble working your way along the 880 ride along san pablo dam road. an accident around san pablo avenue. there is another vehicle tangled up with a bus. you will see some decent delays as you work your way westbound. looking at some the maps, we have a backup coming out of hercules. that connection from highway 4 on the eastshore freeway will see a backup with a stalled vehicle reported. it looks like they have cleared that out of lanes. our biggest problem is west 80 at san pablo avenue. drive times are about 32 minutes to go from highway 4 as you commute to the maze. give yourself extra time there. look at traffic 580 westbound. it is busy, 39 minutes from 205 to 680. highway 4 is one of the bright spots this morning. there is not a lot going on the 101. that is a look at your morning drive. >>> i am katie nielsen live at san quentin. wst an oday, governor gavin end to the death penalty in california. all of the state's death row inmates are held here at san quentin. there

police in the east bay investigating two separate freeway shootings from over the weekend. and one of them was deadly. the most recent happened in livermore. a 24-year-old woman was shot in the leg while driving on 580. it happened yesterday evening. the woman was sitting in the passenger side of the car. her and another person drove off the freeway to call police. the woman is expected to be okay. police do not have a description of the shooter or the shooter's car. ( robin ) the chp is also investigating a freeway shooting on highway 4 in concord. this shooting turned deadly. it happened saturday afternoon... and this morning we have learned the victim's name. the chp was investigating a silver honda that had drven off the road and hit a guard rail on eastbound highway 4 at port chicago highway. officers found bullet holes on the driver's side door. the woman behind the wheel died at the scene. she has been identified as 25-year-old destinee hillery from antioch. she was the only person in the car. we have been monitoring this crash on the eastshore freeway. they just issued a traffic alert because it is blocking at least one lane. coming out the east bay into san francisco, it is slow this morning. metering lights are on at the bay bridge. traffic is really backed up well into the maze at this point. that means 580 and the eastshore freeway is starting to see brake lights now as you approach the bay bridge. we have a crash, here is a live look, it is blocking the left lane. there are three cars involved westbound 580 at mcbryde. it is in effect until further notice. we have a big backup. we have delays as far back as hercules. coming away from highway 4 as when the slow and go condition start and stay sluggish into you get to this crash. san pablo avenue is a great alternate to the eastshore freeway. use that instead. your drive time is about 30 minutes to go from highway 4 to the maze. you get a bit of a break as you head morn to richmond but you will see brake lights again heading into emeryville getting onto the bay bridge toll plaza.

northbound 101 at the 80 split. this freeway is essentially shut down to the rest of the central free way because of the flooding. cal tran has done a hard closure on northbound 101 right at at the 80 split. you can get on to eastbound 80. you cannot continue on to vanness or the rest of the central free way. southbound is getting through you but the northbound is not because of that flooding issue and this also also having an effect on 101 coming up to 280. this is a look at the golden state bridge and that area is okay. you can see the traffic on 880 northbound is getting busier because of an accident northbound 880 at davis street. this went from very little slow traffic to a lot of it and, now, it's beginning to affect 238 northbound, affecting that crash. give yourself plenty of time because of the wet weather. 6:03. back to the desk. >>> motions ran high during the public comments section of the sacramento city council meeting last night. speakers were angry about how police handled the protests the night previous. >> we h

the nimitz freeway looks good, as does the eastshore freeway. we have slowing cool conditions through tracy westbound 580 is slow. there are reports of a crash near grant line. there is no word on if they are blocking lanes but there are slow and go conditions. the bay bridge has a backup in the cash lanes but fast-tracked users are moving along with no delays. it is an easy ride out of oakland into san francisco. that is normal for this time of the morning. it is pretty quiet. the san mateo has no delays, easy breezy working away from 880 to the 101. the 101 looks good in both directions. northbound traveling san mateo all the way into san francisco you should be fine headed that way. southbound 101 is clear. the richmond san rafael bridge is clear. it is a quiet ride making the commute between the east bay and the marin county area. our slowest spot is 580 through the livermore valley section, a 29 minute drive time to 205 to 680. everything else is in the green. if you are hitting the roadways early this morning, you should be in good shape.

police in the east bay investigating two separate freeway shootings from over the weekend. and one of them was deadly. the most recent happened in livermore. a 24-year-old woman was shot in the leg while driving on 580. it happened yesterday evening. the woman was sitting in the passenger side of the car. she and another person drove off the freeway to call police. the woman is expected to be okay. police do not have a description of the shooter or the shooter's car. ( james ) the chp is also investigating a freeway shooting on highway 4 in concord. this shooting turned deadly. it happened saturday afternoon... and this morning we have learned the victim's name. the chp was investigating a silver honda that had drven off the road and hit a guard rail on eastbound highway 4 at port chicago highway. officers found bullet holes on the driver's side door. the woman behind the wheel died at the scene. she has been identified as 25-year-old destinee hillery from antioch. she was the only person in the car.
