we've been collaborating with the shipyard artists, then detailed planned improvements and the role of public works and our next steps. this is where building 101 is located in shipyard phase one, the hill top neighborhood. building 101 was built in 1947 but the navy, 121,000 square feet, owned by ocii, and it contains approximately 150 artists studios. funding for this grant is provided by two grants by the building of commerce. we were here last december when you approved entering into time extension for both of the grants. i can report back to you since then the e.p.a. has approved our time extensions and that makes today's step the last step required before we can get started. the funds remaining as i've already stated are the project budget. we're looking to expend all the remaining funds in these grants, and they require a match of 10% by ocii, an amount of 55199. first d.p.w. will do the work, ask payment from ocii, we'll seek reimbursement and pass it onto the department of public works. some work has been done out at the shipyard, including work to building 101. as i said, we'

i've working on the hunters point shipyard now and the artist studios and i see what's being planned for that region and also the area between the shipyard and candle stick park. and if we're talking about new development and infrastructure being built, i think there are plans for that now and i recommend that we look locally and not proceed with the sb50 and have it be directed out of the sacramento state but actually for us and the planners that exist here locally who know the needs and the train to be able to address the issues around where the appropriate kind of housing that is being recommended in sb50. i do think that we do need housing i agree with many who oppose sb50 as written. it's so robust, broad and vague it seems better to abandon it or not support it for the san francisco area certainly for the city and county. i think the transit areas are important but a half a mile between the number of what's being defined as transits ends up incorporating the entire neighborhoods. i think it's ill defined and i would recommend that be more examined and have it more robust along

on the san francisco redevelopment agency commission, entering a time when we were dealing with the shipyards, and the revitalization of double rock, and one of the things that i had expressed along with so many others that was so important, when we were looking at changing the face of public housing, revitalizing public housing all over san francisco, we had to make sure that we did not repeat -- repeat the mistakes of the past. so providing an opportunity to allow residents to not be displaced and move out of san francisco and out of the communities that they spent their entire lives in was so critical to the success of moving these projects forward. fast-forward, when i became a member of the board of supervisors, mayor ed lee was the mayor and the first conversation we had was my priorities. he said, what's your priority, and i said, public housing, public housing, public housing. we are going to change the face of public housing san francisco, and this project is a shining example of what we can do when we do it right, when we worked together. i lived in public housing for over 20 years
