the church much that's called our lady of refuge and all of the missions have a depiction of mary and jesus like this. she's the patroness of the entire californias, both baja, california, and ulta, california. if you go to any of the missions, should see a depiction of this painting. they brought an original to an art school and the students made copies of the original paintings. so you can see little variations between the different copies. as we make our way to the front of the church, we have one of the oldest if not the oldest set of stations of the cross in california and they're still in use in the church. three of them are being repaired right now. but the other 11 are on display. so one of the reasons why the church doesn't look exactly the way it did during the mission days is because its change of ownership. one of the things that happened is this building was sold into private hands for $510. it was a steal a deal even in the mid 1800's. but eventually the building was returned to the catholic church, but it was showing its age and so they made some cheap repairs to kind of mask
