of the special counsel's investigation into michael cohen, and this begins in july of 2017, just a couple months after robertom the description of the reason for the affidavit -- it says that the fbi is investigating michael cohen in connection with funds that he received from entities controlled by foreign governments and/or foreign principals. so what it appears is happening here, jim and poppy, is that the fbi has begun doing the russia investigation, and they learn that michael cohen essentially has set off some alarms at the banks that he's doing business with, and that's because he has begun using these bank accounts, these shell companies that he had set up. initially, he had set them up to help process these payments for the women that allegedly had affairs with president trump. he started using this same bank accounts, the same shell companies to do business, essentially, including with a company that is tied to a russian oligarch, and that's what gets the fbi and the special counsel particularly interested in michael cohen. there's a lot of suspicion as to exactly what was happening with this money

julie: u.s. and china holding more high level talks this morning as the white house ratchets up a trade war with bejaing hiking tariffs on chinese imports and beijing threatens to retaliate. john robertsh more. happy friday. >> happy friday to you. the stock markets are saying let's get this friday over with as quickly as possible. if you look down in the lower right-hand side of your screen there the stock market clearly does not like what is happening in washington over the last few days. the chinese vice premier arrived at the u.s. trade representatives's office around the corner from the white house at 9:30 this morning. there you see him coming up the stairs and greeted by robert lighthizer and steve mnuchin. not clear what the three will be talking about today. sources tell fox news that the chinese said to them last night that there was nothing more that he could do in negotiations that it would be up to president trump and president xi of china to drag a new agreement across the finish line. it is our understanding that there may be a phone call between presidents trump and xi at some point. we're told nothing is scheduled right now and there is no word on when that call might
