supervisor vallie brown and supervisor safai. you'll be hearing from the sierra club and others which you will be hearing from later in this press conference, and i'm really excited. we are gathered here because we all know that climate change is really one of the most pressing issues of our time. it affects every person in every community, and not just here in san francisco, but throughout the world. we know that it has real life tragic consequences that will only get worse if we do not act. and while san francisco has always been an environmental leader nationally in sustainability, we know we can go further. at last year's global climate action summit, i was proud to become one of the newest mayors to cochair the sierra club's mayor for 100% clean energy programs. at that summit, we also doubled down on san francisco's commitment to using 100% renewable energy by 2050 and be powered by 100% renewable electricity by 2030. that is a lot of numbers, i know [applause]. >> it means a great future for our environment. and to help us

[cheers and applause]. >> thank you, thank you everyone for being here today. thank you to the donors, all the children that are here, because this is going to be -- you will be here in the next couple of years having a good time, but i also want to thank the neighborhood groups because i remember, as a legislative age going out and starting to talk to the neighbors about doing this. i remember some neighbors said you are going to take away our park? our playground? this is -- we use this all the time, but what was really amazing is how the haight-ashbury community, north of the panhandle community, we have lilo gail and charles here from north of the panhandle community, and others who said yes, let's do this. how can we help? and that is how we create these amazing parks. i've been around a long time. i've been a legislative aide and it has been so much fun to watch these different parks and recreation centers open up, like hamilton. hayes valley playgrounds. now the panhandle park.

last few years we have been grateful to the leadership of supervisor london breed now supervisor vallie brownl merchants and alex in particular who have stepped off to offer infrastructure around this event including 185 portable toilets in the event area and neighborhood. 4900 feet of fencing, 90 security guards, 33% increase from last year. dedicated cleanup crews inside the event and in surrounding neighborhoods. this is our third year working together, and this partnership has created a safer and cleaner and less impactful event. the merchant contribution along with a significant amount of support from sfpd, m.t.a., public works, public health, juvenile probation, department of emergency management and, of course, our own staff who works around the clock to manage this event has yielded good results. this event is not without risk, and as always we encourage everyone using the park to respect each other, respect the park, respect the neighborhoods, and to be safe and smart. as a public service reminder there are traffic considerations around the event. in addition to our regular saturday

also for supervisor vallie brown and her desire to become a champion for this idea of zero waste early on in her legislative career. it's been something that is near and dear to the heart. i'm going to ask our two speakers both juan carlos and alexa to speak. >> commissioners, thank you for giving us a few minutes. supervisor brown wanted to be here tonight. unfortunately, given the legislative break, long weekend, she's not in the building today. out in district. she asked me to be here to speak briefly on her behalf. as we just heard, supervisor brown has been a champion of this particular issue for a very long time. she first came to city hall in 2007 to help pass the nation's first plastic bag ban. she remains very committed to this usually. she was excited to partner with the department on this legislation. both climate action and plastics are major long-term challenges. to be successful you need to keep working at it. she believes that strongly. she's been working to continue her work on theft and energy benchmarking and all the different areas of change that we sort of continue
