supervisor watton. >> commissioner watton: i want to thank the supervisor peskin for bringing this ordinance forward. there's a lot of miscommunication and misconceptions about what this ordinance actually does and does not do. all of us here take public safety very seriously. we take public safety very seriously. in fact, i have worked closely with communities in my district to make sure that we have resources for cameras, to make sure that we have resources for things like lighting, things that keep our communities safe and protect it. and this legislation does not have an impact on any of that. this legislation simply says that we want to make sure that if you're a city department that there's a certain technology that you want to use for surveillance that it gets approved, we know what you're going to use it for, because we have to protect the rights of everyone here in san francisco. and it does not stop you from putting cameras up on your homes and it does not stop you from putting homes up on your businesses. these are things that we actually support and work to make sure that happens
