m.l. leibler. ♪ ♪ [singing blues] ♪ >> right now we are in a place called 54 sound.ally is the main music studio. this is where george clinton recorded a number of his albums explosion.e eminem this is where all of the eminem music would come, out of this room. this is where the romantics recorded. and others too over the years. this is a pretty iconic place. the detroit music scene does censor around motown. that is what everybody knows. interestingly, motown is sort of the middle of the story. stories,t of all the of all the other genres of music. it plays a big role in the sound of detroit. it's known for motown, but it's actually known around the world. what was happening in detroit, this was starting around the 1900s, 1910, 1920's -- 1920's, and into the 1930's. to becomes starting the automotive epicenter. before that, detroit was a major manufacturing city. there were famous for ovens, and even cigars, and things like that. but then when the car company, when ford turned into the assembly line, that is when people really started migrating up here. a lot of jaz
