>> i'll let mark corso speak to that. >> good afternoon, supervisors. so the department's proposal is currently in the budget. the request is to fund a position and then do a substitution, and the department is proposing to fund that substitution through attrition and figure it out internally. the total cost savings proposeed is $334,000, and the department's proposal is $72,000, so that would leave about $260,000. >> supervisor yee: is that the best you guys could do? >> so just to be clear, we have -- initially, i'd like mark corso to speak to sort of the numbers we did work with the bla on. i think it's $461,000 we gave back. and then how much with the $53,000 with the other two positions, so it's over half a million dollars thus far that we've sort of moved over towards then. >> supervisor yee: i -- so, chief, you did a real good job in arguing for this position, so i just want to give you credit for that. i'm trying to push as much as i can to see fiscally how we can make this happen, and to see if we could, you know, prove to our taxpayers that we

mark corso. these, all five positions, are intended to be under the same scope as ems-6 as approved by the state of california as far as our pilot program. so the intent is -- of this project, is to have a pool of personnel who can also interchange, but it's also under the scope of the ems-6 pilot program. >> supervisor fewer: what the bla might have been saying, in order to comply with this grant or the state of california or whatever the whole pilot program, is you're only required to have three ems 6, and is that correct? >> i don't believe there's a minimum requirement. that's the standard. the pilot program we have currently, we're looking to expand. we know currently our issue is bandwidth from our resources that we have, and we're looking to add additional resources, not to change the scope of the program, but just to expand it. >> supervisor fewer: okay, thank you. and thank you for coming to sort of an agreement fiscally. thanks. supervisor mandelman? >> supervisor mandelman: maybe can y

update and overview from director mark corso on the public budget. >> that is for after your presentation>> good morning. thank you, commissioners, chief. i'm here to give a brief overview of the department's proposed budget. the mayor proposed for budget back on may 31 and i know you all have been involved with many of the various meetings that we've had with supervisors and other city officials. so, thank you again for your efforts. some of this may be hold to you, but i just wanted to give a brief overview and answer any questions and set out a timeline going forward. so here's a brief overview kind of by fund for our breakdown of our budget. you can see generally general fund operations is our main funding allocation that contains day-to-day operations of the fire department and administratively and operationally. we have some annual projects and continuing projects. those are mainly for special capital projects or other i.t., things like that. our work order fund is for services we provide to other departments and currently our biggest ticket item in here is the work order for the po

mark corso again. we have previously posted the position of grant writer. we are doing a little more outreach and providing more information for potential candidates, so working with a couple commissioners on that right now. we're very close to posting that again, so we should hopefully see a bigger pool of applicants right now. >> commissioner cleaveland: so if there's somebody watching this program right now that wants to apply to be the grant writer for the fire department, how would they do that? >> so i would say keep an eye on our website and our twitter feed. we would, as we did last time, post a link to the job application. that's on the city's job board, as well. i would also say when it comes to grant opportunities, we have been working with the chief on a number of grants that are specifically designed for firefighter safety and health, and there's another one coming up in the fall that we will be looking at most likely in the fall. >> commissioner cleaveland: i think this commission is very interested in that. keep us posted. thank you, chief. >
