and casey franks. to get both of you here since you both know so much about the history of this case. casey, i want to start with you. it's impossible to talk about the arrest this past saturday of epstein without rewinding the clock to what happened more than a decade ago. there were something like 36 minors involved in these accusations and this case against jeffrey epstein and then he got a very unusual -- some would say unprecedented deal from the person who is now the labor secretary o basically avoid being prosecuted. just explain what your paper uncovered about all of this. >> well, what we uncovered is that mr. epstein was able to hire a very powerful group of lawyers who engaged in behind the scenes negotiations with the u.s. attorney's office where they really were able to stage manager the non-prosecution deal that mr. epstein was ultimately able to work out. and we examined emails that we want back and forth between the two sides. it's clear the attorneys for mr. epstein wanted not only for

joining me now is casey frank, senior editor of investigations at the "miami herald." you were in court today. can you give us a little of the other color that went on? >> i was not in court today, our reporter julie brown was in court today, but it was very interesting. remember that these accusers never had the chance to face mr. epstein in court. well, today they did. and i think the judge surprised there are any accusers here, i'd stepped forward and had their say. they didn't go into great detail about the nature of the alleged crimes, but they did say, as you noted, that he's a dangerous man and they would be very uncomfortable if he were allowed to go free on bail. they stood just three or four feet away from mr. epstein when they were doing the talking, and at one point as -- as courtney wild spoke mr. epstein was noticed shaking his head in the negative. >> yeah. let me play just a little bit of the very famed attorney, very renowned attorney who represents three of epstein's accusers. he talked about -- about that testimony and how courageous it was. take a l

joining me now is casey frank, senior investigators editor for the miami "herald" which has been breaking a lot of the story and also tom winter in new york at federal court and harry litman former deputy assistant attorney general here with me. tom, first to you. the significance of this indictment which is bare bones but apparently could run rather deep. >> yeah, and i want to bring you a bit of a developing bit of fr in this case because we just were able to get a copy of the detention memo as the u.s. attorney stated, federal prosecutors will ask the judge to hold epstein without baile pending his trial. they have now filed their detention memo which details the reasons why they say that should occur. they call epstein a, quote, extreme flight risk who has intimidated witnesses in the past. he has access to private plane, private planes that can travel internationally. they want him held without became. and in addition, and this is really a stunning paragraph, they say evidence from a search of the new york residence on the night of epstein's arrest, that was saturday night, say there
