[cheers and applause] >> as a result of your advocacy, we have made significant budget investments in san francisco and this budget, my first budget as mayor is no different. in fact, when we look at the data, trans people are more likely, 18 times more likely to be homeless than anybody else in the city and county of san francisco. so we have invested 2 million additional dollars into resources to not only help people who are homeless in our trans community, but to help keep people who are already housed in their housing in the trans community. i am a member of the san francisco coalition of underground utilities. i live for the past 30 years in a 100-year-old building on russian hill. there are six poles on my block. i look at them out my windows with the recently added extensions holding all of the gear for the telecom industries, some of those poles are now four storeys high. they tilt if you look at them from the top of our block. i'm on a hill. one of them fell two years ago when a tree that was weakened by the drought and have not been trimmed back from the wires fell over in a wind storm, knocked down the pole which totalled two automobiles that were parked on the street and blocked the entire street. luckily this happened in the middle of the night or someone might have been badly injured. i would like to say there are also poles behind my house. now, as i said, i live in a very old building. these poles were probably put in 100 years ago. they're poorly maintained. if it rains, i have no telephone servi service. the wires until about a year ago were sheathed in paper, which is 1920s tec

we have had great success getting the first range of individuals, san francisco residents into the program. providing statistics for your consideration. it has been very gender diverse as well. we obtained students from city college which has been a primary focus along san francisco state university. we are projecting 12 participants in this current summer cycle. as far as some key provisions in the mou that i would like to highlight. the inclusion of the training program. it is a continuous mou to be terminated by either party, mutual consent or completion of our enforceable obligations. the funds to fund the mou, that is through the approval practices overseen and approved by the commission. again, i would like to highlight the fact of the reimbursements are for oewd after staff cost. for the past cycles, there has been about 861,000 budgeted for the past 4.5 years. it is running under budget overall. our current fiscal year budget is about 239. we don't have the actual to da date. for fiscal year 2020, it is 242,000 that was presented to the commission and approved by the commission in

san francisco. with tonight's original report. susie? >> reporter: the city of san francisco has allowed new landlords to pass on a laundry list of expenses to its rent- controlled tenants, including the cost of the building. but last year, the board of supervisors said that that wasn't fair, and that they were going to ban those types of rent increases. but, we found some landlords are still getting that sweetheart deal. >> my name is -- garcia. >> reporter: we first met up with rosie garcia at a rent board hearing in san francisco. she was one of several tenants there objecting to a petition filed by her new landlord, veritas investments. they want to increase her rent by 7%. >> this is my cup. i don't have a showerhead. >> reporter: tenant may object to rent increases if there landlord has failed to perform requested repairs on their units that are required by law. most of this rent increases to pay for her landlord's mortgage and increased property taxes on her building. a 2018 city ordinance for bed that kind of rent increase. but landlords like ver

the climate emergency in san francisco is only going to get worse. all homes built on the landfill will be inundated with sea water. and greenhouse gas emissions are a threat to the city and, thus, the city of san francisco must mitigate climate change by reducing the emissions of the city and endorsing the green new deal. as the so-called paris of the west, but san francisco also needs to prioritize the protection of the historic legacy of san francisco landmarks in danger of being extinguished. i live at 301 get beer street, which is a university mound right in the heart of the portillo district. it was once known as san francisco's garden. in 2016, supervisor campos officially named it the garden district. for the title of the garden district not to sound hollow, the city must follow through and help restore university mound greenhouses. it is the last -- if the -- it is the last of the 21 greenhouses that used to be scattered throughout the portola in the 1920s, the portola was home to 19 family-owned nurseries. this is where the overwhelming majority of produce and flowers were sold in san francisco. cities need to become more sustainable. 770 woolsey can be reborn to its past glory by becoming a thriving example of urban agriculture and what is the second densest city in the country. it cannot only become an important community asset, but a model for other cities. building a condo, luxury condos
