i'll pass. >>> many remember the ongoing water crisis in flint, michigan, but now new jersey is dealingts own water emergency. the levels of lead have climbed to dangerous levels. the lead is leeching in from old pipes. it's not originating from the source, which is a plant about 18 mile as way from the city. the city handed out water filters last year, but it's not clear how well those filters are working. now the city's handing out bottled water. new jersey authorities announced yesterday that they are working with federal officials to determine just how widespread the problem is. and, today, an environmental group is in court asking a federal judge to give bottled was you are to more residents. nbc's kathy park joins us now from the scene in newark where she's been talking to the parties involved. kathy, for people who haven't been following the story, this is mind-boggling. it's 2019. we've already seen a problem like this in this country. how does this get solved, what's happening to solve this problem? >> reporter: ali, good afternoon to you. i think that really is a big question.
