dayton and i want to thank my colleagues brown and stabenow from joining and as well as congressman escobar from texas and representative thompson who chairs the gun violence prevention task force. we are here today for one simple reason -- too many americans are losing their lives to gun violence. too many families are just weeping because they have lost loved ones. i was at the airport today and a gentleman came over the me and i did not know who he was, but he said thank you for what you are doing, because i lost my nephew to gun violence last year. americans are suffering from this abundance of gun violence in america. last month, mass shootings claiming 51 lives in el paso, dayton and odessa and to say nothing of the hundreds of lives lost by daily gun violence throughout america. enough is enough. congress is returning to session, and our first order of business should be to pass the bipartisan hr-8, because this legislation is the quickest way to help save american lives and both in terms of what is effective and can pass, and it is at the acme of that, and right at the intersection
