so as we talking there with the debate with the gun reform with sandy hook psa, this continues across capitol hill and the country really. are we likely to see any movement as we see more americans weigh in on this? >> certainly that's the hope. the white house said that they could release more proposals this week, about what the president wants to do specifically in response to gun violence and the mass shootings that swept the country this summer. there's been a lot of back and forth and a lack of clarity about what the president would get behind specifically, but we do know that mitch mcconnell has made very clear that he wants to come to the white house, with a bill that he's confident that trump would sign, before being very public about what congress wants to move forward with. >> i want to turn back for a moment to the president's pick for national security adviser as well, while we have you, robert o'brien. what is this choice, what does this choice say about the administration's evolving national security policy? >> well we know o'brien has a hostage negotiation background an

and if we can get people like adam lanza, for example, in sandy hook, mental health treatment so we does not become violent to others as well, i think we have a very realistic opportunity to actually save lives going forward. the mental health and safe communities act also increased resources and training for law enforcement and first responders to identify those with mental illness and respond with treatment-based alternatives. by strengthening and expanding these programs and prioritizing a strong mental health workforce, i believe we can avert potential crises before they happen. not all of them but i think we can make some real progress. additionally, i think there's some things we could do to build on the success of fix nics by enforcing current law and improving the existing background check system. we know we need to take decisive action against individuals who are violating current law by selling and manufacturing large numbers of firearms without a federal firearms license. it's clearly congress' intent to make sure that if you're in the business of buying and selling firearms i

the morning of a vote on background checks this is after the sandy hook shooting. those families were there. i had been working with some of the senators leading that bill and i had to tell them that morning to those parents who had lost their kids their elementary school age kids in that school that we didn't have enough votes to pass the bill. one of thebe moms said to me, i will never forget the day, the last time i saw my sonev alive. he had severe autism so he cannot speak but every morning he would look at the school aid he loved so much who never left her side he would point at her picture on our refrigerator and that is what happened the last day when she saw him alive and then he wentth to school and then a few hours later she t was waiting with all of those parents and one by one the children came into firehouse and then the parents that were left they knew they would never see their babies again. she is sobbing in the firehouse she has a fleeting moment where she thinks of the school aid and she knows he will - - the aid would never leave his side. when
