meeting, i have had i don't know how many town hall meetings, i love the town hall meeting, a group of this size and people can interact, it's a good format, the quick of it is, democrats got a hold of this and they have this group called indivisible utah which had a national presentation, they had a specific manual about how to take over a town hall meeting, this thing blossomed and blew up into a thousand plus people that were showing up and they wanted to create this allusion, it's a recurring theme, they wanted to create this allusion that a conservative republican in safe district who just happened to be the chairman of the oversight committee with the newly minted president of the united states, donald trump, was that his voters were mad, they needed to do his job and he needs to hold the president accountable and he needed to do this and do that and they had this long list of demands of things that they wanted me to do, much of which i didn't think were in the purview of the united states congress. and so much so that it got out of control, police officers, people openly carr

i mentioned town halls. 63 democratic freshmen in this class have held more town halls and any other freshman class in modern history of the congress. congressman pappas has held 14 town halls in this district in new hampshire which i suspect is more town halls that several of his predecessors combined. introduced 19 bills, stand-alone bills that she is the lead author of, the second most bills of any freshman and the united states. we have had seven freshmen have laws signed by the president, excuse me, legislation that is been signed into law by president trump over the course of the last nine months, about double that number of folks with bills passed the house that any in the united states senate. the vast majority are bipartisan bills. this class is a hard-working class and i think the legislative agenda to the extent that it's been as robust as i described i think that will continue over the course of the coming months, notwithstanding the important constitutional responsibilities that went under article one to perform our oversight. >> take a couple more questions. >> and a co

we have done a lot of town halls on a lot of different issues.0 people around the country, more than any of these town halls. it does mean that there is tremendous interest. and there's a tremendous appetite. more importantly, you and i were talking about this in the break. the fact that all of these candidates will come on cnn and talk about a single topic, a topic that is very important to the democratic voters and to americans in general means they have to have something to talk about. they have to come up with a p n plan. we've seen several candidates who didn't necessarily have detailed plans before they signed on to these town halls come out and do that. elizabeth warren, she does have a plan for everything. i mean, she kind of adopted, in large part, jay inslee's plan, governor of washington state. he was running for president on this single issue. dropped out because he couldn't get traction, but he had an impact on somebody like elizabeth warren. that's true for a lot of these candidates. >> they all have a plan on the same issue at the

mayor buttigieg and senator harris sneaking theirs in right before the town hall.an really only compare them on dollars and cents. pete buttigieg has less than a trillion dollars in his plan. he's going to pay for it with sort of climate war bonds. at the other end of the spectrum, bernie sanders has $16 trillion. he's going to treat this like 100 world war iis, nationalize the grid. he's more vague on how to pay for it. in between, you got sprinkled in there joe biden at the more modest end, 1.6 trillion or so, kamala harris this morning, a $10 trillion plan with a pollution tax, but she doesn't specify the mechanisms. so i've been reading through the questions. they're astounding. especially anybody under the age of 25. you know, this is the story of their lifetime. >> and it's one of those things. town halls offer a unique opportunity where you can give your plan, you can answer -- you can't answer every question the same way. you really will show, hopefully -- i'm wondering if there's a way to gauge who is most serious about tackling this issue. jay insley is o

now, i do a lot of town halls. i i do one in every county every year. at the end of this year i'm hitting about 400 town halls from the time i been in the ascendant. my 36 counties i give to each year, 22 of them are what we as being politically very red counties. and gun violence comes up all the time. and yet even in those conservative red counties, people are incredibly supportive of having a background checks system nationally like oregon hasig created. because right now in oregon it's kind of a a big hole if someboy just ignores the background check by going across the border to another state to buy guns. of course we have straw buyers only to rigorous enforcement of that. it's only with the national system that this works. every year thousands of people go too more than 4000 gun shows held across america, and together they purchase between 49% of all the annual firearms that are sold in america at these events. and because gun shows in most b states don't require background checks, people who couldn't pass a background check simply can go and acqu

we saw her do this at the town hall we held with her back in june. in the background while i was chatting with rachel, well after the town hall. her staffers snapping pictures until every single person who wanted one had gotten a picture with the candidate. people have remarked this is a brilliant bit of organizing and viral marketing because everyone posts the pictures on social media and you see it from your friends and everyone comes away feeling invested. the other thing about if is there is no shortcut to do it. it is just her putting in the work. that means she stands there for literally four hours after giving a speech to what her campaign estimated was to 20,000 people. warren has an almost terminator like ability that is clearly working for her. she just keeps taking pictures and rolling out plans and steadily rising in the polls. when she declared her candidacy back in february, she was polling at 6%, but she rose to nearly 12% by june, was averaging 17% the start of this month. in the newest poll, she's at 25%, just six points behind jied

i was in a town hall meeting in carolina running to the stage. former football player, and the older i get the better i was. he puts his arm around me and says he would, i want you to punch donald trump in the face and didn't miss a beat, i said dude that's a felony. we have seen that kind of-- the way that we beat them is not by showing the worst of who we are but showing the rest of who we are. i went out canvassing with joyce craig. i met a man with who is a recovering addict who saw the ravages of the opioid crisis in his own life. but what blew me away as he's in a list dealing with addiction the right way, by treatment, by empowering people. this is a man that turned his pain into purpose, that turns darkness into light, and that's the call of where we are with democrats. we don't win by bringing bigger dogs and fire hoses, but by activist who challenged the moral imagination of a nation. so now i'm going to be want with everybody here. a lot of candidates want to tell you what to do for them but this election is not just about the plan. if
