i handle drug court, community justice court, intensive supervise court and veteran's court and behavior health court. i want to make it clear there is definitely await list for residential treatment programs. i think my clients wait a minimum a month in jail for the treatment programs. that is really good. just to let you think about the barrier that causes because that does cause people to often not seek treatment and plead guilty and get out of jail and it does nothing to treat the root cause of crime. i also wanted you to consider some other considerations, the jails are full of drugs. i just learned that today from a case manager we are going to deal with overdoses in jail soon. there are not enough harm reduction programs so that if a person who is really well meaning and trying to get treatment uses, which is common in the path towards recovery they are kicked out. they are not allowed to return within that year. there are people in drug court trying to get treatment and nowhere for us to turn them to. i just want to make that clear. >> supervisor mandelman: thank you. next speake

justice challenge. we have made a commitment to have our december meeting take place in community. the work group that meets as part of the safety and justice challenge meets on a monthly basis and we're talking about these strategies to target the key jail drivers. in addition, we meet regularly as part of the criminal justice racial equity work group and those meetings take place every other month. so what are we doing? here we have a list of the key strategies that we are focused on as part of the initiative. our strategies are targeted to reduce the average daily jail population to 1,044 individuals. this is what would be required to successfully and safely close the jail. we are funded to do decision-making. there's a lot here. i could do a whole other presentation about the different initiatives that are listed here , but i think what is important to understand is how do you reduce the jail population by this 15 to 19% we would need in order to sex with -- successfully close the jail and meet objectives to the grant are that looking at, how do you reduce -- reduce repeat booki
