depositions and hearing from all of these officials, and your congressman republican counterpart matt gatesiary committee as well and he and others have expressed frustration and anger on not being allowed access to currently what is happening in this impeachment inquiry. do you share that same frustration? >> i don't. and i would tell you in that deposition with bill taylor, for example, i think there were 72 members of congress in that room. that's almost a quarter of the entire united states house of representatives. and republicans were absolutely represented there. they had ample time to ask questions. all of those depositions will be tribed a transcribed and released to public. any time the republicans have to focus just on process and not on content, i think they're losing the battle. >> quickly, if you will, when? when will the public part of the process come into play? >> i think it will be very soon. i think there are still a few more loose ends to tie up here. i know the depositions have to be approved by the witnesses. that's part of what's taking some time, and i think we will

. >> carlos carbella you know many of the republicans well, i'm curious, i think matt gates came out today and made a pretty dramatic objection to the procedure behind closed doors but in general you know them pretty well. how do you think they react to hearing from somebody like fiona hill about a shadow foreign policy being run through rudy guiliani? >> well, the first thing i'll say, steve, is i'm not surprised that fiona hill offered high praise for marie yovanovitch. i met with the ambassador in 2017 in ukraine. a consummate professional very much on top of her game and very knowledgeable when it came to the region and explaining to the delegation that was there what was happening and what our plan of action was. it makes sense someone like fiona hill would praise her in testimony today. i think republicans in some cases are making legitimate arguments about process, process does matter here. i think the democratic majority has to take into account two elements as they proceed, number one, transparency and i think chairman schiff could do a little better in that space being more

and so that culminated today with matt gates, the florida republican, a group ofn the respective committees doing this deposition work. barged into the secureo use a phrase from one of the democrats. some of them in the process taking their personal devices, electronic devices into the scif. which is the kind of violation that anybody with security clearance, any regular person with a security clearance could lose that clearance over. now, they say they were trying to -- >> they targeted this hearing for a reason, though, because they thought they could get around that, right, jeff? >> right. they did. and they say they were trying to bring transparency to the process. what they were really trying to do was shut the process down and for at least five hours, they were successful. the view from democrats was this was intentionally timed to take attention away from that sweeping and devastating testimony that you mentioned that house investigators heard from ambassador bill taylor yesterday. there's been some reporting that that -- that gates, what he did was done in concert with president tru

matt gates, a florida republican has gone in and gotten himself kicked out of this room a couple of times already. today he brought backup. it seems like republicans are trying to force the issue here on process, demanding that adam schiff, who has been the leader of this inquiry on the democratic side, open it up, if not to the full congress, at least to more committees. i know the word stunt is loaded, but it's the only accurate word i can use to describe this. this is well outside the rules of the house, well outside the rules by which these committees and by which most americans would hope their members of congress conduct themselves. but it's being done as republicans have tried and tried and tried to push back against this inquiry on process grounds. they have not been, frankly, very effective at arguing the merits of what we're learning mainly by leaks of what's coming out of these depositions, but they are trying as best they can to hammer democrats on what they say is sham process. this appears to be the latest, we know about this stunt that's happening on the hill? >> reporter:
