st. mary's college where merrill drives meets sanders.hey got a lot of power alerts but no alerts about evacuations. >> so what's going on? anyone who lost power, some are just trying to figure out why this is all happening. of course it's fire danger. pg&e trying to reduce the threat of wildfires sparked by equipment malfunctions and downed wires because of the strong winds and those winds can spread the fire easily. the areas in purple are without power this is a screen capture. for the most part this has been unavailable on pg&e's website. the second round of planned shutoffs got under way around midnight. now pg&e projected another quarter million homes could lose business in phase two. we just got off the phone with pg&e spokesman jeff smith who told us it is most likely if you are in the phase two zone and you still have power you will continue to have power. of course in the north bay homes and businesses that were already without power continue to be although they are efforting to get that back on as well. >> and we did have some

st. mary's college.ene right now and we're told that the fire is rather large and it's moving rather fast. about an hour ago, it started, around 1:00 a.m., and in that short time, this fire has grown to consume more than 20 acres. once again, a fast-moving brush fire happening right now in moraga. i'd like to go to the phones right now. we have one of our photographers, craig cannon on the ground right now. craig, can you hear me? >> yes, i can. >> you've been there for a while now. what are you seeing? first of all, where you are? >> i'm approximately in the 70 block of sanders ranch road in front of some houses and the fire's burning right down behind these houses right now. there are fire trucks lined up at every house trying to get people out of the houses, number one, and trying to protect the houses. they're going into the backyards with fire hoses trying to squelch the fire that's coming down the hillside right now. and the entire hillside's on fire right now.

st. mary's in moraga. jobina fortson is live with more. we have breaking news here, in the last minute, sanders ranch is being repopulated. people will be able to go back home. you can see people are slowly starting to trickle up from the tables here and go back. however merrill circle, if you live on that street or no someone that does, they cannot go home. that is the latest update here. i finished speaking with the fire chief of moraga orinda fire, he says roughly between 40 and 60 acres has burned in the hills of moraga. 70% of that fire has been contained. the power is still out at this evacuation center, which is complicating things a bit. the red cross has come with dozens of flashlights, lanterns and providing people with coffee, bathrooms, food, snacks so they have a place to stay warm. we're at st. monica church. look at the flames and how close they got to some of the homes up there in the hills. the fire chief does tell me this was a close call. that's how he is describing this. he said several fences burned. there were several

st. mary's. there is a lot of dry grass and it's a very woodsy area. beautiful homes. it's the kind of house that would go pretty fast, that whole area. because of the wind. they are all wooden structures. >> reporter: how would you describe this experience waiting it out and waiting to go home knowing your neighborhood is threatened? >> well, my wife got out of there in the cat, so, whatever happens, happens. a lot of people were heading up there to fight the fire so i think we are in good hands and hopefully it will just be a grass fire and not a structure fire. >> reporter: some people i talked to said power went out last night around 11. did you experience that as well ? >> yes. i think it was around 11. maybe a little later. i'm not sure. i wasn't home. i'm not exactly sure when she said the power went out. but it's out all over town here. >> reporter: have you prepared not only for the power outage but for this high fire risk in this area ? >> well, we are as prepared as i think most northern californians are at this time. we all look at this, the dry grass in th

feet -- 618 feelt long and 62 feet wide which was just perfect to fit through the locks up it saw st. mary. we are now in the cargo hold number two. this is where thousands upon thousands of tons of cargo, probably millions over the course of 70 years, of bulk cargo like iron ore or coal or limestone would have been transported across the great lakes. the schoonmaker has ballast tanks on either side of its cargo hold to help in the navigation of the boat by being able to sit low in the water or raise up in the water. it has arched girder construction, which was developed in the first decade of the 20th century. this allowed more and more cargo to be placed in the cargo hold. to make the boats more efficient. there are three cargo holds roughly holding about 4800 tons of cargo per trip. by the time the schoonmaker was built in 1911, the cargo would be removed with unloaders. they were mechanized arms that were attached to massive dockside infrastructure which would reach down through the cargo holds of the vessel. with these huge clamshell buckets they would scoop up to tons to three tons o
