meteorologist darren peck is in the weather center. >> yes, the heaviest rain comes in during the commute tomorrow. here's the storm details. showers start by the afternoon tomorrow, but the heavier rain moves in by the time we get into the evening. read the fine print. between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. tomorrow, not only the heavier rain, but we could have isolated thunderstorms embedded in this. and just as the heavier showers come through, the wind picks up. gusts to 45 miles per hour meaning it will be noticeably windy in town. not just in the mountains. there's nothing on high def doppler now, but looking out into the pacific, that's the storm developing there. you can barely see it beginning. i'll be back in a few minutes with more. back to you. >> for those of you heading to the mountains for thanksgiving, consider yourself warned. the roads are expected to be a mess starting tomorrow afternoon when a winter storm warning goes into effect. a couple of feet of snow could fall. be prepared for major delays and possible road closures. and if you are flying, you might run into delays and

meteorologist darren peck is here with more on that. >> some good news. even though the sky is hazy. a real pretty sunset happening, and there is smoke in the sky. but just from looking at the high resolution satellite visuals from today, the kincade fire is not putting up big plumes of smoke and air quality on the ground is measuring good for most locations except for santa rosa where odt. in santa san francisco. just a few degrees above average for san francisco, but 7 to 8 degrees above average for some inland locations. so we're getting warm in the afternoons. but we are still getting cold for the morning. look what we still have here. the areas in blue there still have a frost advisory. better than the freeze warning from the last 2 nights. so it's not as intense. but it is still going to be a cold morning tomorrow when we bottom out. santa rosa at 72. you've been getting into the upper 20s for the past couple of mornings. so it's better, but still getting down to freezing, so the frost advisory has been issued so heads up on that. pets, pipes, and p

. >>> dark and dreary clouds across the bay area this evening, but kpix 5 meteorologist darren peck says there's good news in the forecast. >> if you like sunny and 80 that's coming back for the weekend, but we still have to get through tomorrow because for the start of the day we could see a return of drizzle. not a lot of rain, but like today enough to take notice of it. high definition doppler showing not much if anything going on, and looking at the rainfall totals we got today, san francisco picked up .02 inches. you probably thought the numbers would be bigger. but that's about as good as we did. in the mountains, the numbers were more impressive in santa cruz or along the coast or to the south peninsula. but looking ahead to tomorrow, watch what happens to the temperatures. we're going to see a little increase here. we'll be near 70 tomorrow for inland daytime highs. i'll talk more about the weekend coming up in the complete forecast. >>> all right, darren, thank you. swat teams, guns drawn, move in, make some arrests in connection with that house party shooting that left 5 people

meteorologist darren peck on when we'll see the strongest gusts. >> here's an important distinction on that between a red flag warning warning that's issued from the national weather service, specifically for what the conditions will be like in the mountains. that's totally different from anything you hear about what pg&e does. these are two totally different agencies. the red flag warning is exactly the same as it was yesterday as i showed you in the forecast. that means the timing, see where it says 4:00 a.m. wednesday through 7:00 a.m. thursday, that means for all the locations in red. specifically the north bay mountains, but also the east and south bay hills as well. we'll see gusts to near 60 in the north bay, and potentially 50 for the east bay and south bay hills. in fact, here's a close up look at the peak winds. this is tomorrow morning at 6:00 a.m. you know the drill on this map. if not i'll put the numbers on there. the brighter the colors, the stronger the winds. 60 miles per hour gusts at st. helena, and about 20 miles per hour in town. just to drive home the point, this

. >>> time now for a look at the weather, and darren peck is in the weather center. temperatures will dip tomorrow. >> yes, we made 80 today inland. >> crazy. >> nice. >> and i think that's probably going to be the last seon. there's some pretty dramatic changes coming our way. not just the drop in temperatures tomorrow, and we're only going to average. it's not going to be cold. it will be breezy and average, and that will feel different. but i want to start off looking past that. i want to start off with the headline in this forecast which is another red flag warning. read the time frame up there. it says wednesday morning at 4:00 a.m. until thursday morning at 7:00 a.m. basically throughout the day on wednesday until early thursday morning we've got some more offshore winds coming back. and the middle line there tells you the important thing. right here. it says peak gusts up to 60 miles per hour. so that's a strong offshore wind event. we've had worse in october, but still a 60 miles per hour gust on very dry hills is still a concern. and if we look at how it pla

. >>> we head over to darren peck who's been checking the forecast for us. we're tracking the winds right now. >> and i do not want to overlook how different it felt out there today. look at the drop. you can see the daytime highs on the right. news flash, those are average. but it wasn't just that the temperatures dropped. it was and still is breezy out there. if you look at the current winds. here's the south bay. brighter colors over here to the west and stronger winds. looking across the rest of the bay area, this is not equal. the strongest winds right now are on the west side of the bay area. and they're coming out of the northwest. those are okay. this is not the wind event we're so concerned about. that's coming later tonight. these are the winds that came in with the cool down and when we get our northwest breeze, watch what happens. we start the futurecast and watch how the focus of the winds shifts. it's not going to be out here anymore. it's going to be over here. and the direction change. see the streamlines? advance it to late tomorrow morning.

. >>> darren peck is standing be with the local forecast. maybe some snow in the sierra, right? start out talking at that very thing. >> i thought you were going to talk about the reindeer. >> no, there's no doubt though about how much snow is coming on this one. i don't want anyone to get caught off guard because it will seemingly come out of nowhere. let's start with the map of the sierra and watch this all start to build in here over the next few hours. look at the time stamp up there. i've advanced this all the way to tomorrow. that's tuesday at 5:00 p.m. between now and then nothing will happen in the mountains. but i'm going to hit play and we'll advance this from tuesday 5:00, right about the time it starts raining here, which we went into a lot of detail about at the top of the newscast. when it starts raining here, it will start snowing in the sierra. i've only taken it ahead to wednesday at 9:00 a.m., and look at how much snow we've gotten at donner pass. close to 2 feet of snow on the roadway, so this will be a significant travel issue on what's the biggest travel per

checking in now with darren peck with the weekend forecast. will it include skiing and snow boarding? >> it will be if you're okay with the drive. there's already a winter storm watch tuesday and wednesday if you're traveling over the mountains. this is the holiday rain chance for the bay area as a whole, and it's where things stand now. we're still a few days out. it's likely the timing will change a bit, but since we're seeing pretty good agreement in the forecast models, let's talk about where we stand at the moment. late tuesday through thursday, the whole period has a chance of rain on it. but clearly at this point tuesday night into wednesday morning is the spotlight for the most widespread and heaviest rain. and low snow in the sierra is a travel plans. looking at the system on the futurecast. we start it tuesday night and bring the rain forward, and by tuesday afternoon the leading edge has arrived. but keep your eye on the bulls eye right there and the time up there. that's why i would say tuesday night is the focus. doesn't mean it's

." >>> darren peck joins us with a look at the forecast. pretty foggy day today? >> i know that's why i want to take advantage of the opportunity right now to show you the view from the top of the salesforce tower. you can actually see something. it was great and gray over much of the afternoon that they live look looking down at the bay bridge. i put the numbers in front of that, you no doubt noticed a change today. not only did it look different, with all the clouds, the temperatures came way down. let's do a comparison here. the column over here shows you how much cooler today's day and high was. san francisco was a 12 degree drop. when you look at this you can see a pattern. it was the bay that really changed the most today. if you are inland, you still got a cool down. but you do not go down as much is those locations that were right on the front lines of the return of a healthy onshore flow. the marine layer came in, cooler air came in, do not get out of the 50s all day. it was gray there was a weak storm sitting right up the coast, and while this does mean
