nestle selling its u.s.ream business to a joint venture with private equity firm tia partners, valued at $4 billion, aiming to create a stronger challenger to unilever. joining us is duncan fox, bloomberg senior consumer staples analyst. take us through how the deal works first, selling the u.s. brand to a joint venture in order to take on unilever? duncan: that's correct. the western european businesses in a joint venture years ago, and formalized that in 2016. so if you look at the global ice cream market, number two and number three, so putting the u.s. business in there will give them a 10% share against you know lever's 18 -- unilever's 18%, but that gives them a chance to bring out new products, which is essential in that market. nejra: what will they do with the cash? duncan: good question. they have a buyback already in place, so i think it will just be investing in the core businesses. pet food, coffee, water and nutrition basically, so any opportunities there, they would invest. matt: it sounds lik

what is the story with nestle? complicated than a straight up sale of brands. >> it sure is. it will be quite interesting to watch trading with the stock today, after they announced they are actually selling their ice cream unit in the u.s. for this say $4 billion figure which makes quite a big headline. but there is quite a puzzle because you are selling this for a joint venture they formed three years ago with a private equity firm, and this joint venture was actually with the european ice cream unit that they are now basically merging with the american business. the unit itself in the u.s. had -- $1.88 billion sales billion in sales this year. it is quite interesting to see this happen right now because it goes in line with what the company indicated in october in its financial update when they said they would be divesting from the slower growing businesses. the stock rose just 0.1% yesterday, and it is interesting to highlight that they have 16 buyer accommodations versus 12 hold and just two-sale right now acc
