walton? >> thank you, chair peskin, and thank you ms. kershback in just a moment kershbalm.i wanted to tt recruitment. there was a period of time in history where we had people who would just flock to become operators. much like you put together the plan in terms of how many different trainings we're going to have per year, and looking for resources so that we can have more trainers, i think we need to be just as aggressive in the outreach recruitment strategies, for bringing in more operators, pathway programs. i think we need to be more aggressive and more formal with a program, working with city college. i can remember a couple of years ago, there were resources available to try to develop apprenticeship programs with m.t.a. and tutor perrini, and i don't foe if those were fully recognized. we probably should see a similar outreach and recruitment plan that is written down, that is documented, so we know exactly what we can do to support that plan and how we can find ways to work on this body to be supportive. because if we actually c

chair mar. i want to thank the co-authorities of this measure, supervisors preston, ronen, mar, and walton. i also want to recognize the leadership of supervisor peskin, who most recently was able to have an announcement of a navigation center for transitional age use in this district. i know that is something he has been working on and fighting for for some time. i want to thank him for that. and also the department of homelessness, who i know is here, who has offered feedback and amendments, that i'm sure we are going to discuss, and i want to thank them for their partnership and their hard work on navigation centers more broadly and on working to end homelessness. there are more than 8,000 people experiencing homelessness in san francisco. 65% are unsheltered, which is hundreds more than than in 2017. the city is leading more than 5,000 people unhoused and unsheltered, without a safe place to sleep at night. the number of people who are chronically homeless continues to rise, meaning they've been homeless for at least a year. this crisis impacts every neighborhood and every person in san

chair. this item, i wanted to talk about the hunter's point shipyard testing and wanted to note that on january 17th, on friday, the mayor, the supervisor walton received and uc berkley regarding the review of the appropriateness of the testing protocols for parcels a and g at the shipyard. the report concluded that the california department of public health and safety scan on parcel a was appropriate and they also further concluded that the navy's partial work plan and proposed for retesting g was appropriate, so long as epa continues to review the plan. and to the oversight they're required to do. it further recommends any dissemination for development on g cannot be made until all of the retesting data is available for review. supervisor walton will be hosting a community meeting next week on tuesday, january 28th, at 7:00 p.m. at 441 galvez and experts will give an overview n response to question. just for the record, there is parcel a resident, private meeting and that's also happening this week. and also, i want to note block 8 has a grand opening end of this month and it a mixed-income oriented development and transbay project area and
