places, wild things. what i want to do is open things with a little background as to who i am, my story, how i got to this point, how this book came to be. then i want to read a short passage from the book and finally what i would like the most time to be spent on is an open dialogue, a cute and a about public lands, anything you guys are interested in talking about. i spent a lot of time sitting in an office by myself talking into a microphone. very rarely do i get people in front of me to talk back so selfishly i want to take advantage of that so all that said i'm a grand rapids boy. this is where i am from so thank you, hometown crowd for being here. i was raised in a pretty outdoorsy family. we did a lot of the same things some of you probably did, we first, hunted, hiked, camped. we didn't ever do anything particularly fancy. we weren't the type that if you go on vacation, we were not going to disneyland, have never been there, we never went to mexico or florida, we didn't do those types of vacations
