ed o'keefe joins us now and ed what can you tell us?well, nora rules show biden will win overwhelmingly across both states tonight and those ruts come as so far five other states have rescheduled presidential pry mairdz while still more are considering doing so. not since new york suspended a state primary on the day of the 9/11 attacks has any state had to alter its entire election calendar so dramatically a pandemic didn't stop democracy in action today as voters in arizona, florida, and illinois cast ballots, knowing that they could be risking their lives to do so. >> i brought my purell. i brought my wipe. i had to get out and vote today, no matter what. >> reporter: there was confusion and long lines in some parts of florida. >> i've been doing this since 9:00, trying to get my vote in. ( laughs ) >> reporter: in illinois, at least 850 poll workers didn't show up, but those that did were given suggestions how to mark the floor so that waiting voters stood six feet apart. ohio was also supposed to vote today, but governor mike dewin

and ed o'keefe at the washington bureau. ed, how big was biden's wi. in a word, it was huge. in his brief campaign, biden had never won a primary or a caucus before, and desperately needed this victory, and now he's clear second place choice to bernie sanders. one thing we've noticed throughout the primary season so far is voters are making decisions at the last minute right before a cast ballots >> pauley: and now to super tuesday, what makes it more special this year? >> you could call it super sized tuesday. 14 states are voting at the same time across the united states. we expect lat least 15 million primary voters to show up to cast ballots. more than 1300 delegates are up for grabs. and because the race is now so spread out across the country, candidates have to spend much more time spending money on digital and television. they've already spent more than a billion dollars. about half of it spent by michael bloomberg who will appear on ballots for the first time on tuesday. >> pauley: correspond end ed o'keefe, thank you. and yesterday's primary claimed a casualty. tom

( applause ) >> reporter: elizabeth warren ended her presidential bid right where it began-- at her home in cambridge, massachusetts. >> i will not be running for president in 2020. >> reporter: for now, warren is not endorsing one of the remaining candidates. >> let's attack a deep breath and spend a little time on that. >> reporter: warren's exit means that the historically large and diverse democratic field is now down to tulsi gabbard-- who has earned two delegates-- and joe biden and bernie sanders, who began the race as the best-known contenders. >> there are two lanes-- a progressive lane that bernie sanders is the incumbent for, and a moderate lane that joe biden is the incumbent for. and there's no room for anyone else in this. i thought that wasn't right, but, evidently, i was wrong. >> reporter: with six more contests next week, sanders today flew to a rally in arizona and canceled plans to visit mississippi to instead double down in michigan, a state he won in the 2016 primary. >> we've got a very good shot to win this thing. >> reporter

and we want to bring in cbs news political correspondent ed o'keefe. is was a big and much-needed win for joe biden in south carolina. what does this mean for him going into tuesday? >> reporter: well, his team would tell you this is the momentum they need to convince any late-deciding voter who is not a fan of bernie sanders to side with them instead. their hope is that by the end of tuesday, he emerges as the clear alternative to sanders. it's pretty mathematically impossible, based on what polling is showing us right now, for somebody to surpass sanders, especially because he's going to have such a big win, it looks like, in places like california. but they're hoping, the biden team is, in the next few days they're able to raise millions of dollars and, again, convince people he is the leading alternative. >> brennan: does he have the enthusiasm that you say sanders' supporters have? >> reporter: that remains a key difference between these cndidates which is bernie sanders supporters are the most enthusiastic of all the top candidates. that's why his
