fox 2 news. >>> governor newsom and cal are fire season here in california already. and when the fires get bigger and harder to control. the governor held a news conference on the wildfire preparedness. he said that there were 628 wildfires across the state last week. governor newsom said 172 new employees have been added to cal fire staff and more aircraft has been purchased to battle those fires. >> more equipment represents more time saved and more value for suppression. these blackhawk helicopters represent a $285 million procurement. 12 helicopters that we are bringing into the fleet over the next few years. but there will be new protocols and procedures in place for firefighters and evacuees. face masks will be required and instead of congregate shelters the state is working with the hotel industry to shelter evacuees in some cases. also meals will be prepackaged for evacuees and fire crews. to talk about the safety precautions that will be put in place. we are joined by cal fire division chief john cox. talk about what the plan is to keep evacuees safe when yo
