cnn sports correspondent carolyn manno has more. >> reporter: issues of diversity and inclusion continue top of mind across sports leagues as the cleveland indians now say they are going to look at the long-debated nickname they've had for over 100 years. the team releasing a statement last night which red in part, we are committed to engaging our community in appropriate stakeholders to determine the best path forward with regard to our team name. the national congress of american indians applauded the move after years of complaints saying this is a big step in the right direction but that much work remains here. two years ago, the team made a notable change by removing a cartoon caricature as its logo which had long been criticized as offensive to native americans. this comes after the washington redskins issued a statement on friday saying that they are having internal discussions about a change to the franchise's name. this runs contrary to what washington owner dan snyder has said in the past. for years, he has held firm that he would never consider changing the redskins moniker, bu

cnn sports correspondent carolyn manno joining me now.o we know about the braves players, their condition, and all of this happening during what's considered the second spring training, right? >> that's right. so we know that two of the braves players that were mentioned today were asymptomatic and two were exhibiting symptoms. first baseman freddie freeman was in the second group that's exhibiting a fever. he's said to be down for the count for the foreseeable future. you mentioned this resumption of spring training and hopefully fingers crossed for major league baseball season and all of these results are coming after an initial round of testing. they tested just over 3,000 people and, like you said, initially 31 players and seven staff members came back positive. this is something that's going to continue to evolve and change their privacy issues and we're going to hear about more and more cases as they get set for a season that's set to begin on july 23rd or 24th. >> that was an announcement about an abbreviated start of the new seaso

carolyn manno has more in the "bleacher report." hey, carolyn. >> good morning, john.has been a big sticking point between nfl and its players union as the season gets closer and closer. but now it looks like a decision will be made as it relates to the preseason. a source familiar with the talks telling cnn that the league has offered the players an opportunity to play zero preseason games. the players have been asking to use that time to get into football shape. our source says the union has not accepted that offer yet. the two sides have agreed on daily testing for two weeks so that training camps can begin. if the results are at or below 5% during those two weeks, then testing is going to shift to every other day. meantime, san francisco giants manager gabe kapler joined his players who took a knee during the national anthem before last night's game against the oakland a's. kapler is the first big league manager to do so. he says all of his players will be supported, regardless of what each decides to do during the anthem. >> i wanted to demonstrate my dissatisfact

as carolyn manno reports, calls to drop it are gaining new momentum. >> reporter: the washington redskins released a statement saying, they've been having internal discussions over the last couple of weeks and plan to conduct a thorough review, as to whether or not a change needs to be made to the team's name. the term red skin has been since 1923, that is viewed as racially charged. the team owner says he has no plans to change the name of the team. in a recent statement he said something else. saying this process allows the team to take into account,not only the proud tradition and history of the franchise, but also input from our alumni, the organization, sponsors, the nfl and the community it is proud to represent on and off the field. nfl commissioner roger goodell added his support to the team's announcement also. saying in a statement, in the last few weeks we had ongoing discussions with dan and we're supportive of this important step. the mention of sponsors in snyder's statement is important here, as we've seen snyder pressured in the past. this comes after "ad week" reported in
