nbc bay area's damian trujillo is live at christmas hill park with more. damian? >> reporter: well, janelle, the d.a.'s office is about to hold a virtual ceremony here at the christmas hill park in gilroy. this is in memory of those who were killed in honor of those who survived and to the many first responders who potentially saved more lives. this ceremony begins at 5:15 this afternoon, around the time that the first shots were fired. now, all day people have been coming to christmas hill park to pay their respects. they brought flowers and balloons in memory of the people killed and those who were hit by gunfire but survived. responding officers who were already providing security at the festival fired against the gunman. they did strike the suspect, but the coroner later revealed that he died of a self-inflicted gun shot wound. today the mayor unfurled the flag at christmas hill park honoring the victims. >> today we raise the gilroy strong flag to represent the strength and resilience each and every one you has shown this last year. this flag represents our c
