that's what you do in the peace corps, typically.you are teaching others to do a wide variety of things from literacy to agriculture to cultural education. it is a marvelous way for somebody to give tove the world, but at the same time to serve the united states because by becoming a piece peace corps volunteer, you go and represent your country in the best possible way. in a way that young people of other nations look up to and respect. you are putting your time where your idealism is. not everybody does that. i have enormous respect and i will close by simply saying that one of our very close family friends, one of their young daughters, young by my standards, somebody in their 20s, just cameyo back from two years as a peace corps volunteer. we were at a wedding of her brother just a few months ago and i had the chance to sit and talk with her in depth about her experiences in east africa. it's a wonderful way to serve the country byay completely i'd commend it to anybody that may be listening. and again, we ought to incentivize it

it's one of the finest hours in the history of the marine corps. this was a much tougher fight than anyone anticipated. we tried to show that in the way we line up this gallery. there's a lot of things happening. there's a kind of forbidding environment. it's as if you stepped off the earth and gone to the moon or a completely different space. we have here one of the most fascinating display cases i think of the entire museum. most of the items here were in the possession of -- he had a close encounter with a japanese officer. the japanese officer raised his sword, did not have time to get it out of his scabbard and whacked the lieutenant on the helmet. and you can see the helmet which still has the crease in it from where it was struck by the japanese officer's sword. the lieutenant passed out but he shot and killed the japanese officer in the course of this fracas, and so we have this amazing bit of exhibitory. we like to choose artifacts that don't just sit there but tell a story, and i think sis a classic example of music story telling. there w

i went on to be part of the 3:26 hospital corps. this was the hospital corps that was attached to the 101st. anyway, a lot of the doctors were green when they came in here. they had season doctors, but some of the doctors were green, and that's why was so important to have their seasoned medics. that would help us out immensely. come through and look around if you will. and medical cabinets that you see -- i try to have things that i am going to use. this is a blood pressure cup from world war ii. it works. it works with a column of mercury. it is accurate. basically, you get the laws of gravity and density of mercury. however, how my gun here blood pressure in the heat of battle? normally i would assess them clinically. the guy was sitting up and say hey doctor, how about some more morphine? i could feel his pulse. his blood pressure was fine. but if another guy was cold and clammy. i can't feel his pulse. he passes out. this is the guy that is going into shock. also, remember it when we are not doing battle here. this is your doct
