reporting live in solano county, jodi hernandez, nbc bay area news. >> thank you, jodi. we've been doing this now for more than a week. we know where these fires are, but where are the actual hot spots as of right now today? let's look at the lnu fire where jodi hernandez was reporting from. it's the biggest area. burning in two areas. west and sonoma county and napa county. as of this morning, the hot spots were north of guerneville. here we are. north of guerneville and over towards healedsburg. napa, solano, lake counties. north of calistoga and lake berryessa. the scu fire spanned several counties as well including alameda and santa clara counties. this fire's burning mostly in remote areas but it's destroyed at least 18 homes and other structures. it's 15% contained. that's good news, but there are hot spots east of fremont and milpitas. san mateo and santa cruz counties, hot spots continue to threaten the communities of boulder creek, bonnie dune and ben lowman. >> here is some more information on the czu complex fire. tonight more than 77,000 people are out of the

reporting live in solano county, i am jody hernandez. >> as difficult as it is to lose property, when we start to hear about the loss of life, it puts it in perspective for all of us, so thank you. we did hear cal fire talking to us about the red cross and how you can check to see if somebody is on there or how you can file a missing person's report, so that's something you need to be aware of. the fires are burning all across the region, and they are forcing thousands of people to evacuate. in saw phoeponoma county, 25,00 were told to leave their homes, and napa county, more than 13,000 people have been told to get out, and just a short while ago as we were watching the news conference, we heard 48,000 people in the santa cruz area were being told to get out. now people are doing what they can to escape. the fire is large in santa cruz. you can see the smoke just billowing over the mountains, and flames also burning in san mateo county.

we get more from jodi schneider.resident trump is now focusing, after tencent, on a bigger target. he signed an executive order prohibiting transactions related to wechat, owned by tencent, thank the u.s. must take action against the parent company to protect national security. this came right after he signed an order restricting tictoc. our senior international editor jodi schneider has the story. jodi, what are the significance and implication of this executive order targeting wecheck? : coming right after the executive order prohibiting u.s. businesses from doing business with tictoc or its chinese owner, it is fairly significant. because it basically says that president trump's declaring war on these chinese companies and does not want them to be in the u.s., and prohibiting transactions relating to the u.s.. it is a huge deal. it is very wide news in china. muchhis move very restricts whatever commerce you can do in the u.s., again coming right after that order prohibiting u.s. businesses from doing businesses w

here's nbc bay area's jodi hernandez. >> reporter: this fire hasn't just been devastating for people. it's been terrifying for animals. somehow these critters survived. well, their family's house did not. tonight there are a lot of animals in need. the lnu lightning complex left hundreds of animals running for their lives. the toll on wildlife, livestock, and pets has been heart-wrenching. >> ranging everything from burns to smoke inhalation and many secondary complications that stem from those. >> reporter: a uc davis veterinary emergency response team has been working nonstop to help rescue and treat all the critters injured in the fire. they've been caring for animals in the field and at evacuation centers. >> a lot of sheep, pet pigs, horses, even some emus. >> reporter: the most critical are being brought to the animal hospital at uc davis. >> for second and third degree burns. a lot of it is wound care, burn management, pain control and supportive care. >> reporter: the team has treated more than 1,000 animals so far. vets hope to help them heal enough to return to their familie

nbc bay area's jodi hernandez talked with a family member in the bern zone where relatives are grieving. >> she was one of the most caring people that i've ever met. >> reporter: robert mcneal is dealing with the loss of his mother. he said his best friend. 70-year-old mary hint meyer died last week with her boyfriend leo mcdermott and his son tom mcdermott when the fire swept through their napa county home. >> they called the planes off and the next thing you know it re-erupted and went through the whole canyon and nobody had a chance. >> reporter: his brother drove out to the road block but came back for her boyfriend who was in a wheelchair. she texted a photo of the fire and said they might have to go into the root cellar. then the text messages stopped. the three did seek refuge in what they called the root cellar. basically a makeshift fire shelter build in the side of a hill. this is where searchers found their remains. >> i was scared. i mean, her biggest fear was burning and she didn't even want to be cremated. and that is pretty much the way things ended up. >> reporter: mcnea

jodi hernandez, nbc bay area news. >> we want to show you how quickly fires can grow in heat with just a little bit of wind. you can see it starts and then it really explodes over the next three hours. >> there are two other significant fires, one in contra costa county. so far it burned more than 1,100 acres and is 0% contained and evacuation orders are in effect. a brush fire in sonoma burned about 1,700 acres there. ten homes are under mandatory evacuation orders. i want to show you this that was caught on camera in downtown sonoma. the storms cut the temperatures a bit cooler. places still in the triple digits and if you notice haze in the area, you are not a lone. a lot of smoke in the sky and the air quality is poor right now. >> yeah. unfortunately it is the perfect storm for unhealthy air around the bay area. now we are getting more and more smoke trapped in the region. above 100 around livermore and fairfield. upper 80s now. those temperatures are starting to rise quickly. the pink thaw see there is the excessive heat warning. two more days of the similar temperatures and you

. >> reporter: jodi hernandez, nbc bay area news. >>> other fires we are keeping a close eye, the woodward fire. 5% contained. 1600 structures are still threatened. the august complex fire, that's a group of 37 fires and 17% contained and more than 2,000 acres scorched there. >>> the chp helicopter rescuing a lost hiker. he's coming up. this is how it shook down. the 73-year-old hiker was lost outside the fire zone in the boulder creek area. he was lost for two days. he eventually called 911 and the sheriff search and rescue team located him using his gps tracker. he was stuck in steep terrains and could not walk. the chopper came in for the assist. that man was lifted more than rs recovering and expected to be okay. >>> as our kids continue with distant learning, we saw heartbreaking photos that stood out. these are two kids walking to a local fast food restaurant to borrow the wi-fi. they are sitting there using wi-fi from that fast food restaurant. so one posted this photo and went viral and that's when school leaders stepped in and helped the students. they now have internet in their h
