, our security, and our prosperity. they are doing so because they want to, not because we tell them to. our role has been to share information, exchange experiences, and provide the support and encouragement necessary to empower them to make the right decisions. as we confront the growing china challenge in europe, we must not forget that europe is also the central focus of ongoing russian aggression and malign influence. although china's gdp is about eight times the size of russia's, russia remains the primary military threat to europe and the strategic priority for morse of our allies and partners, particularly those in central and eastern europe. russia and china are more closely aligned strategically than at any point since the 1950's. and we see growing cooperation of across a range of economic, military, economic, and information activities. russia and china are not a monolithic block. there are certainly tensions and friction point in that relationship, but their growing strategic convergence is more than a simp

i asked our team, our city team to start working with people and organizations in our neighborhood to did he vel community led education campaigns and outreach efforts specifically around mask wearing, and many answered the call. our nonprofits arts and faith organizations are on the frontlines impacting communities. because of their relationships, they are often the most trusts and the most influential than the government. i'm proud to say, today, we are launching our first series of community-led campaigns ahead of labor day weekend, and you are going to hear from some of our partners shortly. but first, i want to address why we are launching this ahead of this current weekend. historically, labor day is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of american workers. because of the pandemic, this labor day has a special significance. it is a chance to honor the special workers in our community. we know this virus has disproportionately impacted our frontline workforce, many of them who have to reuse their medical equipment every sipping wisipping -- single day. labor day mark

our students, our faculty, our staff, our administrators, our trustees, everyone involved. all right. as you can see from this slide, we're starting with all classes via remote distance learning. i just want to emphasize that remote distance learning is not the same classes as our city on-line but were developed as on-line classes from the beginning. there really is a significant difference there, and, you know, we are of course planning for in-person instruction in certain areas, pending state and local restrictions. you can see those areas listed there, mainly in the areas of health instruction and culinary arts and hospitality. and, of course, we are following department of public health guidelines to ensure the safety of our faculty, staff, and students, we will see where we end up with all of that. so in terms of providing support for faculty during covid to deliver remote instruction, we have a community canvas system, and all faculty with instruction assignments have been receiving instruction in distance learning, again, distinguished from on-line learning, on-line

so i talked about our structures, our focus on pd. wanted to share highlights in both of the areas. in august alone, we provided -- actually, that was two fridays ago, central office hosted 80 80 pd's and this is on top of what we know our sites are doing for the educators that engage in distanced learning. we had ten thousand plus attendees across the pd's. we also hosted the digital district's day and that is a one-day pd that just realliliesy lists our ability as a staff. this year, we had over 2900 participants and an amazing keynote speaker, dr. dina simmons who layer on how could we be about connection and hold an antiracist lense? we got a lot of feedback from that particular day and another attempt for us to build our educator's capacity, not just to do distance learning but to do it well. there was a question around how many devices we've given out. i think it's been reported several times, we gave out 13,000 devices over the spring months and a little bit into the summer and just over the past eight days of school, since oct

, our citizens, our country against future cyberattacks? our recommendations in the cyber commission focussed on shaping the international cyber battle space, hardening our resilience and maintaining our capability, capacity and credibility to impose costs on the adversary, all in the service of deterring the type of catastrophic attacks that our two esteemed commission chairman laid out in plain speak in the opening pages of the report. we would not have lived up to the great responsibility given to us if we had not thought about what our country would do in the aftermath of a significant cyberattack. so i want to spend the next few minutes underscoring one of the commission's recommendations. the need for the u.s. to develop and maintain a continuity of the economy or coet plan which was introduced last month as a build in the senator banking and housing affairs committee by senator peters. during the cold war the continuity of government plan as well as another was developed to ensure that the government could function in the set of a nu

does that undermine our reliability with our partners, and what does that say about our ability to get cooperation when we are combating china? >> i spent some time at european command prior to taking over this job and we were then already focused on the challenges as outlined in the national security strategy of great power competition including china. the real message we sent to partners is evident, for instance, in the december 2019 nato leaders statement out of london, where we declared for the first time that nato should address opportunities and challenges of china stemming from the p.r.c.'s growing influence. we do this all together. we have been addressing things like forced posture over time. i will leave that to my colleagues to get into the details of that, but i think we have got this and we are getting it right. enhanceern partnerships forward presence, the things we did in response to russian threats, direct existential threats, we need to look at the broader range of threats like cyber and hybrid. china being very much a part of that as well, and that is what we are doin

into our society. so, and that's true, also, with education. there is a great need to understand how it is that we can create an environment that is safe for teachers, for opportunities, and at the same time pursue this commitment for the highest level of learning possible in the midst of the challenges that we face. we have set up in our state what we call the unified command group. it's an interesting approach to tackling the challenges of covid, but we brought together the departments in our state that are most powerfulfully affected. so it's the department of health and the department of education and the-- our team, our emergency management agency and the department of military because of their key role in testing in our state, and what we call economic recovery group. so, our education department of health are meeting together every day. commissioners from our department of education and department of health because we are so interconnected. it's how we developed really, we think a leading strate

environment, our health, and our budget. we have been sold a bill of goods that recycling alone is the answer. less than 9% of plastic has ever been recycled. and a great deal of our recycled plastic in the united states is shipped overseas to burden poor and developing countries, where there are clear struggles to effectively manage this volume of waste. limiting the production of the products in the first place would be the simplest policy for everyone involved. ambassador moore, i would like to ask you, is the u.s. participating in any efforts to prevent other countries from adopting bans or regulations on single use plastic products? mr. moore: senator udall, i thank you for your question, i thank you for your leadership on this question. i know that is part of a family tradition, looking after the interests of the united states. in terms of discussing this, as i said in response to senator shaheen, there are conversations at the u.n. environmental assembly, looking at the issue of what is produced and how it is handled.

we have doubled our wind, quadrupled our solar. we led the effort of 17 states, democrats and republicans, saying let's look at what an energy future could be where we are capturing more of the carbon along the way. we need to address climate. but to the second part of that, john, we also have to do better forest management along the way. the fact that the forest service right now, before this year, 50% of its budget was spent on fighting fires. i worked as western governor association chair with democrats and republicans to make that effort along the way, and we finally -- and i worked with secretary perdue and the trump administration -- we finally fixed the issue. senator daines voted against it. i created a $100 million fire fund. right now it is $80 million. before we came in we didn't have anything like that. i brought folks on the ground, conservationists and loggers, to get more work done in the woods. that is logs on trucks and actually repairing watersheds. we need to be doing both and that is what i have done as governor

our first thought was informal. i talked to you how they recruited me out of college, still served as an informal mentor. i was progressing and on the formal side of the fdic and also a variety of different ways . if you are a staff level employee you can be involved in our mentor and program where you're applying to be a more senior leader and you develop a leadership plan and in addition we have a specific plan for leaders. we have our leadership mentoring plans where managers can be partnered with more senior managers for their development. if you have an interest in becoming a leader you also have a program for emerging leaders where you can seek coaching and in addition we are now focused on some of our more senior leadership opportunities where we can take individual that we identify are high-performing and partner them with specific assignments and higher levels that they may not normally get an opportunity to be exposed to because that awareness, all those things help contribute to the success factors and it
