let's speak to professor lawrence gostin. he's the founding o'neill, chair in global health at georgetown university. he joins us now from washington. d.c. . professor, we're looking at record numbers of infections across the country and deaths are also soaring. are people intentionally disregarding advice by travelling well, or is this pandemic fatigue? do you think? well, it's a combination of a lot of things. and i don't think this willfulness but i think it's pretty clear to people all around the world that the united states is so politically bitterly divided. and so the simplest things, like public health warnings, about masks or mass gatherings. all of these things are, you know, highly political, literally just today, the u.s. supreme court reversed itself and decided that new york state couldn't put a restriction on gatherin because it violated freedom of religion . so this is, you know, and then there's fatigue. this is a really serious problem. the vaccine just can't come quickly enough for the united states. we're
