joining me now from london then is douglas mcwilliams douglas is the founder of the center for economics and business research good to have you with us so what gives you the confidence that china's economy will overtake the u.s. by 2028 china's got 4 times the population of the united states so when the g.d.p. per capita or in china reaches a quarter of that in the united states the total g.d.p. will be bigger and the other thing that gives us confidence is although we can't be precise about the individual year we've got a pretty decent track record in forecasting the world economy and say we're better than anyone else at it it doesn't mean we're all that good but it means that if we say something it certainly incorporating the best knowledge that's available what is it got to do though to get to the next milestone which is through 30 trillion dollars well getting to 30 trillion dollars is not that difficult and if we're assuming that chinese growth will slow down very considerably we're expecting rapid growth in the abstract here because growth last year was pretty close to 0 but still just slightly positive

thank you price is chief economic advisor at the center for economics and business research she joins us now by via skype from london i've been a t.v. keep many economists reason that at least in the short term the u.k. economy will slow due to briggs it and of course the pandemic do you see briggs it is a tragic national area as the guardian newspaper put it today. well what we have seen already in fact is that of the economy lost about 3 percent of what it could have had since the referendum vote so there is a ready evidence of rex in its nose things down by causing all sorts of uncertainties over that period since the vote in 2016 and also bridging investments so we've seen the u.k. underperform actually through that period but then of course we had kind of it too which has complicated issues and you can't quite distinguish one from the other very much at present so in this atmosphere we're probably not good do you feel and know for a lot of the brics it impact in those short term and things still need to be worked out in a number of areas where we carry on as before for example on
