history made in georgia tonight.ction in georgia. beating incumbent senator kelly loeffler. now 40,000 votes ahead of senator loeffler. we are joined now by jonathan, david, and christina. this is history made in georgia tonight. >> it is. i'm cautiously optimistic, but we do know this country has a long history of excluding black voters and people from the political process. and when we think about soon to be reverend doctor senator-elect warnock, i hope it does set a tone and a pace for other black candidates to be elected statewide. we've never been able to get a black female governor elected in the history of the united states. hopefully that will change in 2022. we've only had two black female senators ever elected. so i think a lot of people are inspired tonight, and not just black americans. >> david, your thoughts on the history made in this hour? >> look, remarkable that the deep south has now elevated an african-american senator. we should all celebrate that. the big question for me, lawrence, coming out of

what we've seen in georgia, i'm from georgia.d raised in dekalb county and i can tell you this, the ideology has changed. there is a new face in the state of georgia. the fact that republicans allowed this to happen to the fault of their own is really disheartening. i will say this. i think we're going to continue to see more of this in the state of georgia if republicans don't recognize our elections are fair, they're valid and people need to have more confidence in them. >> well, listen, i'm just a country boy that lived in fulton county so you said dekalb so i'll take it. we always said dekalb and maybe that's me with southern drawl. >> i will clear up the election controversy. dekalb county. the conversation at matthews conversation in tucker, georgia, tomorrow i would love to be a fly on the wall. >> why is that ? for the people that have worked hard and it's paid off, it's going to be a good day for a lot of people. democrats in the state of georgia and, you know, the change is hard but a lot of times change is necessary. >

georgia is rich with good soil. but it is our job to weed out the evils which seek to steal that promise from all those who call our state home. it is abundantly clear that no industry and by depth of innocence, child and an opportunity more than the sensor enterprise human trafficking. during our first days in office, we had the ground running to crack down on traffickers, care for victims and eradicate modern-day slavery in ourstate . and before i go any further let me just say this: i don't think and i know no first lady in the country has done more to end human trafficking and our first lady marty kept the people of georgia, myself included are lucky to have you. thank you for your work. my mother grew up in waycross, georgia. you know where that is? way across georgia.eved in hard work. she grew up in the summers in the 1950s, a black teenager picking somebody else's cotton, picking somebody else's tobacco. but because this is the united states of america, the everyday the 82-year-old hands that used to pick somebody else's cotton and to the polls and picked her youngest son to be a united states senator from the great state of georgia. as somebody from georgia, who has long covered georgia politics and long covered the black electoratehe election that stacey abrams blew up the electoral map in georgia and she only doubled down on that in the weeks headed into this runoff and i think that what we are likely seeing is a result of, of the better part of the decade's worth of work paying off in the likely victors of both raphael warnock and jon ossoff last night. listen nbc 2014 she started the new georgia project, beginning to expand the state's electorate by talking to people across the state, not taking any voters for granted, and in rural georgia in particular, people who had been unseen and unheard in the state, didn't feel like their vote necessarily counted, and then, you know, after coming so close to becoming the first black woman governor in the history of the country, in 2018, but missing that largely due to so many people believed, voter suppression. not going home but saying i'm going to continue to work to empower voters in this state. making that her new focus in the past two years. it just really cannot

the trump implosion in georgia. explain. >> well, jon, it turns out that when you spend a couple of months telling voters that their votes aren't going to be counted, that the process is rigged against them, that there's really no use in participating in democracy anyway, turns out some of them listen. and it turns out that it hurts your party and ultimately, there can be any number of conclusions drawn from these results down in georgia. and you can get down to a granular level, looking at particular counties, but the macro takeaway from any intellectually honest individual on either side of the aisle here is that donald trump just sabotaged his own party. he sabotaged his party's senate majority. he sabotaged his party in countless ways moving forward. and ultimately, there's no way to spin what happens last night away from the president's doorstep. it's quite clear, even to the president's own allies, who, of course, will not say this on the record yet, i'm sure that they will find their courage in a month or two
