thomas: one of the points you made on the show the other day, tom, is that this is not newt gingrich's georgia, and that was a well put statement. it is much more diverse, with demographic shifts from rural to urban centers. that is making a play to key democratic trends in texas. tom: i don't mean to interrupt, but this is absolutely critical. is georgia the front runner for texas and florida to become more georgia? thomas: i think it is the leading indicator at the very least. we see some of the same demographic trends and it is pointing in a good direction for democrats. of course, one of the stories that we saw coming out of the 2020 election is that it is not just -- all minority voters are not voting in the same direction. there is more nuance, for example, in particular with hispanic and latino voters. but it is all part of the larger demographic. tom: we saw up to november 3 that hispanic and latino voters are not so much in this group. there are real nuances in what we saw. are we going to see the same estimation in georgia, where we talk about a homogeneity in georgia voters

we thought it was difficult and i was in the white house and newt gingrich was controlling congress, but we had no idea how bad it could get. what you saw in the obama years, after the midterm elections in 2010, it was very, very tough to move anything. republicans had decided that they were going to sibley be intransigent -- simply be intransigent. with chuck schumer and control of the senate, the option to move things on budget reconciliation and the threat out there that we could get rid of the filibuster, it might be possible to do some things that are bigger than what we got done after the bid terms -- midterms in the obama years. but the main factor in all of this will be, what appetite do the 10 or so very moderate members of the democratic senate conference have? there's one other factor. pelosi's majority in the house is very, very small. it's around three votes, depending on the day, because some members could get covid and not show up. that means she can be held hostage by members of her own conference if there are no republicans who wants to come along -- want to come alo

and over the years since the newt gingrich republican revolution in 1994 up through donald trump, theas seeded more and more to the far right in the republican party. so the centrists who still want to oppose democrats, you know, we see people say i'm leaving the republican party, i want to join the democrats. that doesn't really help if an entire party in our two-party system doesn't believe in democracy. so they need to help take back their own party or found an actual center right party willing to put the fringe on notice. >> so kristen, there's that issue, what the democratic party looks like going forward, what some kind of a conservative party looks like going forward and whether the republicans become some weird fringe or the party as it exists becomes om weird fringe but we also have our institutions to fix, including our legal institutions, our courts and that's something biden has to get to work on as soon as he gets into office. >> i think the attorney general who will lead our most important law enforcement agency and get it back on track and into the business of protectin
