his name is douglas stewart and he is my guest today.

tiger first came on the scene, he was, you know, 2, 3, 4 years on "the mike douglas show" hitting golf balls with jimmy stewart watching, and his father earle woods really said that this is -- this is a man who was going -- a boy who was going to grow into a man and be a leader in this world and will be the kind of iconic figure that we haven't seen before. now, i think it was a bit over the top for earl to describe him as the next ganldy or the next mandela, but as a dad he said those things, but he was right about the golf, and sure enough tiger came out and said hello, world, back in 1996. won a tournament right away as he turned pro and won the masters in 1997 which really was the -- the moment when he -- he said hello, world. i'm in charge here and when america fell in love with him. that's been since 1997. so look at all this time that has passed, and he's lived three or four lifetimes in terms of the various problems, and, of course, the incredible highs of winning golf tournaments. >> christ i'm, you've been extraordinary. let me thank you and also ask you to stay with me. i want to go now though to an

just campaigning for stuart sometimes substituting for him in debates with stewart's first opponent, a guy named steven douglas. and so blinken is learning by watching this debates as well. he's also learning from todd what to do what not to do he could be called lazy which stuart gives him. his roughly contemporary, he is also someone who helps guide blinken, educate blinken both in the social world and later in the state legislature the same time blinken's. they're working one in the state house, one the state senate, browning. running will stay in touch with ligon throughout his life. he's one of the few people that blinken will share his inaugural address to and make an important change there. later, browning is appointed to take over steven douglas senate seat. during his time and washington he will interact a lot with blinken. they have a rather candid correspondence over the years. but nevertheless, browning is still there. somewhere in blinken's view as somebody who blinken likes to use as a sounding board. that is kind of how they all come into play. at least at the beginning why they become mentors,

chief warren, done marshall, potter stewart, roosevelt appointees, black and douglas, brian white and thurgood marshall and abe fortis. >> we'll talk more about abe fortis in the history of the court in that particular year. this was one of warren's last cases, retired two weeks after the decision so sum up the warren court for us. what was it noted for? >> well, the warren court was particularly noted for being upholding a lot of liberties, civil rights particularly on desegregation and criminal rights. i do think it's interesting with this brandenburg case because it is at the very end of the warren court and it certainly marks a very strong marker of protecting speech, but to some extent, the credit really for the development of the free speech principles has to go to the earlier justices of holmes and brandeis because although this was a warren court decision, the principles that they adopted and established in this case really were developed further in a more sort of rich detail in the earlier decisions. >> one of the interesting stories about the justices in this case is justice
