blodgett in case he has any additional as it relates to the o.i.g. mr. blodgett: thank you, chief. the inspector general is going through and investigating various points along the january 6 time frame, the different units, and we'll be coming out with a series of reports on that. other than what the chief has spoken of, i am unaware of independent reviews. i know there is an investigation going on. mr. case: one by the f.b.i. that we have not made reference to but that's under way. so going back to the question of adequate, independent, objective review and advice, it strikes me that the physical infrastructure side of this, that's a very difficult question with a lot of difficult, you know, decisions to be made at the end of the day. but it is more about a physical structure to protect the capitol and its inhabitants. what we're really at in these hearings, i think, far more is the organizational structure of the capitol, whether that structure worked, which i think we have all concluded it didn't. whether the failures were failures of people under difficult circumstances or fail

capitol police and timothy blodgett, an acting sargeant at arms will both testify. they both released their opening statements to this committee. they already are revealing a lot of interesting information. pittman said that if her agency had akected on some of the information that they had before january 6th, they would have worked to keep vice president mike pence from overseeing the certification of the election results. it would have been that serious and prompting them to take that dramatic action. of course, that didn't happen. then blodgett in his testimony talks a lot about the different information, contradictory information that his group received leading up to january 6th and part of why they were caught flat footed when this event became much more dangerous. he talks specifically about a capitol police briefing that went out on january 3rd that in one part of the briefing it talks about the possibility of the protests planned for that day becoming violent but then just a couple of days -- couple of pages later, i should say, they talk about how in realit

they added security to members of congress' homes, for example, but at the same time, timothy blodgett will point out their intelligence said but we think this protest is going to look a lot like the past marchs in november and december, full of trump supporters that ended up with very little violence. and he says within that intelligence document that those two ideas just are such conflict that he's having a hard time understanding how you could move forward with good intelligence when you have these two polar opposite ideas driving the decisions. for example, he says the intelligence provided to the capitol police and other law enforcement did not anticipate a coordinated attack. warnings should not be qualified or hidden. bad information conflicting information or missing information leads to poor decisions. and one thing i think is important to point out and i should have done it before i read his quote is that he also thought that at the end of the day, the intelligence simply didn't synthesize the reality of what was going on. all of these pieces and they weren't pulling it toget
